Welcoming, friendly and professional

I had day surgery under general at Colchester hospital and was sent home same day. My wound was not healing well and so I popped in to ask for advice. They immediately saw what the problem was, put my mind at ease, dressed the wound and I then came back every few days for 2 weeks for new dressings in the evenings as I work full time and was continuing to work during this period. Without this evening care I would have had to be signed off work

A wonderful hospital

This is a wonderful hospital and provides wonderful service, the staff are so good and kind. I used to be a HCA myself and I know what good service is. They provide ensuite rooms and the food was great. Everywhere was very clean.

Staff are so good here

The staff are so good, I found them to be so caring, always cheerful and kind to patients, and even though they are busy they always seem to give you time. I had several weeks of visiting the community hospital in the last few months following a dog bite and I had to get the dressing changed and checked 2-3 times per week. Honestly, they were absolutely brilliant.

I was referred for minor surgery to have a cyst removed and I was seen in 3 weeks. I was seen and with in 15 minutes it was all done. Its easy to park there and all very straight forward. The staff were good and created a relaxed environment.

Efficient and friendly service. All for a repeated dressing to be done 6-7 weeks worth. Every one is so kind and it is nice to be able to get this done locally.

Need improved awareness of service

Having to ring 111 at evenings, weekends, bank holidays is a problem.
a: people ringing are asked a series of questions which in many cases, as probably only a minor injury, is not required.
b: 111 operators are not aware of the MIU (now called MIC) in Felixstowe, it's not on their list, so they send patients to Ipswich or Colchester adding to A&E demand.
c: if patients were allowed to ring the MIU direct, staff there are more qualified to check details than 111 operator!
This idea was rejected by the GP federation.

The MIU staff are always fantastic

MIU has been a vital resource for me in the past but the changes to access are really having an impact on everyone. According to 111 Felixstowe MIU doesn't exist, I fear this is the start of the end for MIU.

An invaluable service

Having lived in Felixstowe for eight years, I have used the MIU on a number of occasions. It is an invaluable service locally. As a full-time worker, this helps. Also, I care for a 93-year-old father who can access this unit on a mobility scooter, which helps him remain independent.
