Rude, unprofessional doctor in A &E
Most staff v pleasant and helpful but the main doctor's attitude was upsetting. We had been advised to attend by NHS 111 helpline as a matter of urgency because my partner had suspected Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Before he had seen all the test results, one doctor told my partner his symptoms were too vague and this was not a matter for the emergency department. His tone was rude and abrupt, and he said we should not have come. When told that we had been advised to, he said '111 staff are not trained', and this was a matter for the GP. Yes, the tests ended up negative, but the whole point was that we were worried and needed the tests to confirm one way or the other - as we had been advised. It is stressful enough feeling very ill and worried, without being made to feel like a time-waster. Also very confusing to be told such different things by two professionals. It is not our fault that there is no 'middle' service suitable for medical conditions that are too urgent for a GP but turn out not to be life-threatening.
