misses out on social side

July 30, 2018
My husband now has to be hoisted and he seems to miss out on social side when it is downstairs he has to be hoisted and I suppose it is a lot of trouble. Staff attitude is pretty good on the whole but it does depend on who is on duty. Home is kept clean but my husband lees so.

I have complained about many issues with no change

August 14, 2017
I have complained about various aspects a number of times. Things improve for a week or two and then revert:

My relative is only showered once a week and he is incontinent so this is not good
There is no accessible bell in residents lounge so help cannot be summoned.
I am not convinced that staff check his incontinence pads regularly/frequently.
I can never find a member of staff when I visit.
On one occasion he indicated that he needed the loo and a member of staff took him off. I waited but he didn't return. When I eventually went looking he had been left on the loo and the member of staff that had taken him had clocked off duty and gone home!
He should be taken out of his wheelchair and put into an armchair to help manage his pressure sores-whenever I visit he is in the wheelchair and when I find a member of staff to challenge the answer is always 'we were just about to move him' but I'm not convinced.

Dear anonymous,

We were very disappointed to read your comments. We take our responsibilities as a care provider very seriously and so we actively encourage comment from our residents, their relatives or our own staff about any aspect of care. It is our policy that any concerns raised are looked into and acted upon, but we have difficulty in doing so in this instance because your comments are anonymous and although you say you have complained a number of times we are unable to identify you or your relative from your comments. If you would like to make contact directly with the Regional Manager we will arrange to meet with you to hear and follow up your concerns.

As a family member of a resident, you will also know that there is a customer feedback system in Kingfisher House and all of our homes, whereby residents, relatives and visiting care professionals can comment using iPads that are available in the home, with a touch screen questionnaire linked to a purpose designed software system. Feedback given in this way is transmitted to the Home Manager and at the same time to the Regional Manager.
