Magdalen House Care Home

My mother fell twice at the care home and on neither occasion was a medical examination sought. Two days after the second fall, a Practice Nurse was in attendance and on examining my mother immediately recognised a broken hip. The response of the manager to my comment was that it was 'hard to diagnose'. During the intervening two days well-meaning staff were encouraging my mother to get up, sit in her chair and go to the toilet.
My mother was moved to the dementia floor as she was disturbed by noise downstairs when she was unwell. We asked several times to have her moved downstairs in subsequent months as she values the garden and found dementia residents disturbing as they continually entered her room. This was refused.
Many staff are very caring and my mother grew fond of them.

Lost items. Much more institutionalised. Bruise on mother when she returned home. It was only when the care at home carer washed her it became obvious. Raised with the home, they said she had had a fall but they didn't inform family at the time. Staff not very caring.

No welcome, the staff are pleasant. There has been no time spent asking us about my husband. There's no care plan. Has had a fall, went to hospital with no carers, he refused tests etc. In hospital so they sent him home. When I was able to visit that day he was still in the same clothes as I'd put him in the day before. No explanation that they don't send carers to hospital and will charge if they do. Nothing very obvious that they had winter vomiting bug. No advice from staff. Cups are passed by the rim to individuals. Rubbish not collected.
Medication not given when it should be

My dad is really happy. I did unannounced visits before he went to live there and they were always happy for me to have a look around. Very pleased with his care
