Emergency appointment still cost £150

My husband found a dentist in an emergency in Martlesham as he was in pain with his tooth, He was given pain releif, he had to have an X- Ray which all cost £150 the pain got better on its own eventually and seems it was an infection, they gave him antibiotic if the pain came back. The issue we find is that we cannot get regular check ups on NHS. I have a certificate to be exempt from fees during as I have a young baby and I cannot get in anywhere to use it. It is a very frustrating situation.
