I attanded for a routine appointment

March 9, 2018
Very bad experience. I attended for a routine appointment; it was suggested I had an X-Ray to update my records. Having got the X-Ray the dentist then started to peer at the tiny piece of film, and announced that I had decay under a crown. She showed me a black line on the Xray which she said was decay. She said she would take my crown out and put a new metal crown in. I pointed out I had a metal crown in, a nice gold one that I had had for many years; she said I wouldn't get a gold one on the NHS another gold one would have to be private. She said that she would take off my existing crown, sort out whatever the problem was under it and put another gold crown on for £550. Catiously I agreed, she wrote on my notes, and sent me back to reception; at reception they asked me how much I was paying today. I explained that I had already paid for my inspection; they said I had to pay at least a third of the £550 up front before they would book the appointments - 'didn't the dentist tell you?' No, the dentist hadn't told me. I said I would get back to them; I then made an appointment with the dentist who had put the gold crown in; he X-rayed me, and this X-ray was on his computer screen, so it was a very large view of my tooth; there was no sign of any decay. Six months on I still have no problems with that tooth
