Limited understanding of duties

May 13, 2019
The carers have a limited understanding of their duties. The care provided was poor and resulted in 3 pressure sores as they weren't turning properly. They didn't notify anyone when husbands health and mobility deteriorated which meant that an air mattress was not arranged and pressure sores developed.

Dear anonymous
I’m sorry you feel the care provided did not meet your expectations
I’m not aware of this particular concern, however if you wish to contact me, I will certainly investigate the matter as all our staff receive high quality training and we expect to be notified of any deterioration in customers.
Kind regards
Yvette Last

If I could give zero stars I would!

Mum is 89 years old, is frail and suffers frequent UTI's and has dementia, therefore she has quite a high dependency on her carers, 4 visits a day to supervise medication, personal care including commode use, dressing, meal prep etc etc. Mum's care agency was changed to Community Voice by SCC last year. They let Mum down on many occasions, however when they went bankrupt Nayland Care were appointed. The numerous ways in which Nayland Care failed to 'care' for Mum are too many to list, but included complete failure to turn up, two hours late getting Mum out of bed, missed meds, not assisted to use commode or pad change, shower/wash not given, teeth not cleaned, denture left in overnight, gloved hand from personal care used to administer eye drops, no drink given etc etc. Carers seemed to be unable to communicate with office, new girls sometimes unable to find Mums house or didn't know keysafe number so couldn't get in anyway! We reported these failures to the Office on many occasions, reviews of Mums care were done and promises of improved service were given, but rarely did we notice any improvements, and if we did they were short lived. Finally we had no option but to report them to Adult Safeguarding. As a postscript I would like to say that some of the girls were exceptionally good as doing a difficult job for low pay....but most should not be doing the job, or at the very least require better training/supervision!

Dear anonymous
I’m truly sorry you had a poor experience in 2017. And I would agree that this was an exceptionally difficult period for customers staff and managers. Nayland Care did transfer under TUPE a large group of employees where the previous provider gave notice on the local authority contract. Prior to this event the company provided many years of excellent service and since working through it, transparently with outside authorities, we are again providing a high standard of care and support. The transferring staff were unsuitable for us as a company, resulting in insufficient numbers to meet the increased service requirements. We handed much of the work back, worked with the local authority and built our former good standing back. As the company owner, starting up the business because I genuinely care about our older people, this was a dark time for everyone. What I will always stand by, is the team of managers who also genuinely care and worked with me tirelessly to bring the company back to its former standing. I’m happy to say that’s been the case now for the past 18 months.

Organisation appalling. Don't always turn up

Mum needs extra care. She is often confused. The care agency seem unable to do the simplest tasks or meet the discussed care plan. Such as ensuring mum has had a hot meal each day, and encouraging her to wash, etc. I have often found her in need of changing (wet). Also whenever I take mum out and cancel her visit with the office, they either still turn up, or forget to do the later visit that is still needed. Due to Mum's condition she requires a hot meal each day, but if the carers can get away with only making a sandwich they will. Another grievance is that there is food stuff in the fridge that mum is partial to,( there to be used) but I end up throwing it away as it is never used. No one ever thinks to look in the fridge.
