No support for ASD and sensory difficulties
There is no post diagnosis support for children with ASD and sensory difficulties. The occupational therapy team don't appear to deal with any sensory difficulties once a child is over 5 and as it's virtually impossible to get an ASD diagnosis in the first place, let alone before 5.... Sensory difficulties have a hugely negative affect on my child's life and we've been left with no choice but to seek out an independent occupational therapist and pay for assessment and support/advice. The lack of nhs support means many ASD children struggle to cope in school, schools don't know to support them and also cannot access the right support/advice which is contributing to the local authority's issues with demand for specialist placements. An appropriately trained and accessible sensory OT service who can support and advise is desperately needed in Suffolk
