No dementia care support for self funders

Social care support is not there if you are self funding. Once the decision is made you are just handed a list of care homes or support organisations and left to it. The social worker we had was lovely and even after we were identified as self funding said I could call if I had any problems but when I tried to contact her, I was told I wasn't on her list so they wouldn't put me through. The overall support from the whole social care sector for individuals and family members with dementia is extremely lacking. There is no support. Carers are extremely difficult to get and find and family end up doing everything.
