My family have had to visit out-of-hours GPs on several occasions and each time I have been impressed by the quality of care. The doctors take time to understand the problem and never dismiss our feelings/concerns. I always leave feeling that I made the right decision to call 111 (and then visit the out-of-hours GP), despite initial concerns that I might be wasting their time.

We were told by out of hours in the early hours of the morning that a doctor would not be with mum before 7am so we left to get some sleep. When we arrived at 6.30 we found out that the doctor had visited twice but had been unable to get in because we were not there. So much time was wasted and it delayed the visit to mum because they removed her from the list as we hadn't answered the door. We then had to wait til a lot later for the doctor to come out.

We called 111 late the other night and were surprised to be given an appointment in Stowmarket with a GP. They sorted out the issue quickly and prescribed medication. Overall very impressed by the service which worked really well.

We visited the out of hours service at Stowhealth on a Sunday after calling 111. We were given an appointment within an hour and were seen promptly. The doctor was very good, took in to account the whole complicated medical history and it really helped that we had shared our medical records previously which meant the doctor could access everything they needed. A very quick easy to access service with good care provided.

Visited a sick resident, very polite and friendly, dealt with us as though we were professionals and quickly prescribed antibiotics.
Didn't prescribe enough medication

Were given an out of hours appointment at the hospital but the prescription given didn't provide enough medication for the time she needed to take it. The difficulty was then getting an extra prescription/medication required.

I needed to contact out of hours service on 2 consecutive nights and had to wait for up to 3 hours for community nurse and GP visits for pain relief for an end of life patient. I was appalled to realise that there were only 1 pair of nurses on duty for the whole of Suffolk o the first night, and only 1 doctor on duty each night.
