Baby had severe diarrhoea

My 9 and half month of son has had diarrhoea for over 36 hours. He was exploding through nappies and 2 layers of clothing and this was happening roughly 9 times since Wednesday evening. The GP did feel his tummy said it was fine and then told me how the gastrointestinal bug was going around etc. He then said "I am not recommending this but if you withheld food and milk for 24 hours it will clear up faster but he will be hungry "?! He is only 9 and half months he still needs milk. He then said it's up to me what I want to give him if I continue with milk or not. I said he can't go without his milk. He then said to just feed as normal and top up with more liquids whatever those liquids may be and suggested Ribena? ! The pharmacist at Sainsbury was more helpful she offered suggestions on food and these sachets to dissolve on his water etc. But she said and the NHS website to go to a GP after 6 runny poos. He was pale and lethargic yesterday. Been irritable for days. I told the GP all of these and all he tells me is to withhold food and milk in a roundabout way of not actually suggesting it as I guess he was covering himself. He made a rude comment about my son's size saying how he has reserves in him if I lessened the milk amount and made a joke about how much laundry I must have. Not exactly the experience I needed or wanted after being up all night with a poorly baby who pooped through two lots of clothing and 2 grobags. Everyone else from this surgery though has been helpful and lovely. But this particular GP was most unhelpful and rude.
