Efficient but not much information given

I do not understand why a canula was inserted to give me a tranquilliser before a gastro endoscopy and then I was told by the surgeon it would be better to have a local anaesthetic and it was given before I could answer. Later the unnecessary canula was removed. Why waste time putting one in if the person in charge doesn't want it used? Waste of a nurse's time
