Difficulties getting a specific medication

I was prescribed a branded medication because I didn't react negatively to it but when I tried to get my pharmacy to fill the prescription they gave me a cheaper alternative which made me sick and it finally meant I had to change to a different pharmacy to get the tablets the doctor had said I should have in the first place.

My wife was previously prescribed a specific hand wash due to a skin condition, but this is no longer available on prescription and we were not warned about it.

Because of all the recent changes and overloaded workload of GPs I feel that because they don't know your health history the quality of the care provided has reduced. However in time as knowledge builds it should improve again.

The only thing I don't like is having to explain why I need an appointment. I don't feel the receptionists always need the detail they seem to want.
