Good hip operation

Orthopaedics

Very pleased with my recent hip operation, it went so smoothly and all the staff were lovely. The only issue was the parking, due to not being able to walk far before the appointment I was dropped off at the front of the hospital and then my husband had to go off to find a parking space. It's quite confusing when you don't know the car park.

When I was being referred for my knee to be done I was offered the choice of West Suffolk or Colchester hospital. So far I've been impressed by my initial meeting with the Consultant and they took my history in to consideration when making the decision to operate and when it would be. The new orthopaedic centre seems to be a great idea.

Very difficult parking

February 10, 2025
My husband was in critical care and it took one hour to find a parking space to visit him. The hospital also seems unable to talk to Ipswich hospital even though they are in the same trust.

Recalled quickly after standard mammogram for further tests and very quickly diagnosed and planned lumpectomy. Due to onco test from lumpectomy, given chemo and the radiation treatment with follow ups of zolronic acid infusions on bones and I am still taking letrozole. All appointments made in good time and staff where great.

My parent was admitted to ED via ambulance. They were in RAT, Majors & AMSDEC.
Every single member of staff was kind and patient. They were extremely busy but they appeared calm & unflappable.

Communication between hospital and patient could be improved, in my opinion good communication helps to take away concerns and anxieties.

Allergic reaction was not identified

I was taken into Ipswich hospital in May 2024 to the foot diabetic clinic, they had to operate because blood gases were travelling up the inside of my leg I also had an abcess. They sent me via ambulance to Colchester hospital as they were more geared up I was told for vascular work. Whilst I was at Colchester I was given TYclopalin medication introveinously, I began to get itchy and some of my skin became red raw, I informed the nurses that I was itching but they did nothing and didnt seem to make much of it, I was in Colchester hospoital for 19 days in total. When I got home and the nurse who came to my home came to put a picc line in I showed her my back and how itchy and sore it was, she told me immediately that it was an allergic reaction to my medication and she took photos of it. My antibiotic was changed immediately and I slowly recovered and my skin returned to normal. Other than that episide they looked after me at the hospital well.

I have been waiting a significant amount of time for my knee replacement operation, I am in a lot of pain and the hospital staff strikes are delaying it even further.
