Noise disturbs patients

unknown
September 19, 2023
I want to say that the bins which are on the wards of this hospital make a huge noise when opened and closed, they are metal and operated by a foot pedal, I could not help but notice that it is a significant disturbance to patients who often feel very unwell on the ward.

I had a perforated ear and the procedure needed was very intricate to do, the doctor who was doing this was excellent. I am very pleased and satisfied with the care given to me.

They seemed to forget about me

Accident and emergency services
August 14, 2023
The Ambulance service dropped me off at A & E in Colchester as I was experiencing extreme pain from what I believed to be my gall bladder. I was left initially for about an hour in the freezing cold, I was then taken for an X-ray and again they seemed to just leave me, I thought they had forgotten about me. I asked for some pain relief but I could not have any until my blood test was done and back. Then the doctor was very rude to me and asked me if I had thought by coming here by ambulance I would get bumped up the list? this question offended me. I went home and went to see my own doctor who sorted out my operation that I needed very quickly, I cannot speak more highly of my doctor at Lawford surgery.

Childrens A&E great

Paediatrics/children services

They were very understanding of our childs additional needs and really worked around them rather than expecting them to change for them.

Nurses very good

I went in for a planned operation under a local but although staff did explain what would happen and were very supportive I did find the experience quite traumatic and would've liked some sedative to help. I was in and out as a day case and left the hospital at lunchtime. The nurses were very good throughout.

Very supportive midwives

Maternity
October 11, 2022
Although out of area now I decided to have my second baby back at Colchester hospital so have done a self referral. The midwives there have been very supportive and there is a dedicated out of area midwife who I am seeing. Its been a really good experience and all staff have been friendly.

End of life care lacking

unknown
March 3, 2022
The end of life care at the hospital was not great during the pandemic, I'm not sure what would've happened if we hadn't been there to support mum. I did ask about having her transferred to the hospice but initially I got no response from staff and then when they did come back to me when I asked again they told us it was too late for her to be moved. Knowing what hospice care is like I would've preferred mum to be moved. Staff were obviously stretched and couldn't provide the support they normally would, I'm just glad I was able to be there with mum for some of the time.

I was admitted for an induction and the midwives were incredible. My partner was able to stay with me and the care provided was excellent and it all went smoothly.
