Catheter support lacking

March 26, 2025
I have a catheter full time, sadly I do not have anyone that I can just call up to have a chat with about any catheter issues I may have, you might think I have a directline to the district nurse but I do not, in not having support to troubleshoot or discuss issues with my catheter can be upsetting at times. I had some significant difficulties getting urology to agree to change my catheter to a more appropriate type for my need.

Clinical and non clinical staff v. good

March 26, 2025
Things have definitely been difficult with the surgery over covid but I have seen some improvement at the surgery. They are suportive and I do feel that both the clinical and non clinical reception team are very good. I can normally get a face to face appointment if I need one.

Confidentiality can be an issue

June 27, 2024
AskmyGP online is not everyones cup of tea. Its not mine and I also get tongue tied on the phone so I tend to go in to the surgery and book my appointments. Its not the most personal at the desk and confidentiality can be an issue as people are queued up and can hear what you are saying which is not good. Consistency in seeing the same professional is not great and to actually see a GP is not easy. The difficulty in seeing different people is that you have to start again, I know they are supposed to see your notes but they dont know you anymore or are used to you. THe surgery itself is quite good and the staff are pleasant. The thing I really have an issue with is the confidentiality as I said at the start.

Thank you for your comment.

Confidentiality is also a concern with us, whilst we appreciate you may not like using AskmyGP it does take out an issues of confidentiality so we always recommend our patients use this system.

Nurse and Health Care Assistant appointments can be booked within the surgery however, all GP's and Nurses practitioners schedule their own appointment so if you don't add the information to AskmyGP then the receptionist has to do this for you (it takes the same amount of time whoever adds the request). We encourage all our patients to use AskmyGP themselves to allow time for the Care navigation team to assist those that can't use the internet.

We acknowledge that this system isn't ideal for everyone however, with the ever increasing patient demand it certainly allows patients so see an appropriate clinician within 24-48hrs if deemed clinically appropriate to do so, you can always request to see a preferred clinician.

Kind regards

Its difficult to see an actual GP

April 23, 2024
When you actually get an appointment you often do not actually get to see a GP instead you get to see a student GP. They always do a telephone call back first and assess if you need to be seen or not, but it is frustrating when they feel it important enough for me to be seen only to be met with a student. I also do not like talking initially to the care navigator about my medical details, I have been told in the past by the care navigator that if I feel I need more help for me to ring 111 or 999 if needed.

Thank you for your comment, in response and for greater understanding
Haven Health is both a research and training practice. We believe it is vitally important to train the next generation of GP's and have done so for numerous years, this is particularly important when there is an ever greater need for GP's within the NHS and this can only be accomplished with staged practical experience.
By the time medical students are at Haven Health for their rotation they have already been studying between 4-6yrs and we are only lucky enough to have them at Haven Health for very short periods through-out the year. A GP supervises and monitors each and every consultation however, any patient can decline to be seen by student if they so wish.

It is the responsibility of the Care Navigator to ask questions so that medical concerns can be triaged appropriately, this is the same with the majority of GP practices, so that a GP can deal with the most urgent as a priority and I am sure that any patient experiencing high risk medical issues would appreciate this process.
You will always be told by a Care Navigator to contact 111 if out of hours or 999 in an event of an emergency as the GP surgery is not an emergency service.

Unfortunately as you have left your comment anonymously I cannot investigate further however, whilst it is not what we would wish, like all patients if you are unhappy with the service provided by Haven Health then you are free to register elsewhere.

Kind regards

Request for antibiotics

January 13, 2024
Doctor prescribed a difficult to take medication despite my reasons against. Also, the tablets were film coated. Not exactly suitable for a patient with a stoma. I feel my reasons against were ignored without any consideration.

I am sorry to hear that you feel your reasons were not taken into consideration after consulting with the GP; it maybe there was no other mediation available at the time or perhaps the GP felt you would get an improved outcome.

Unfortunately it appears you have left your feedback anonymously so limits any investigating however, if you would like to contact me directly at the practice I would be happy to look into this further .

Thank you

Thorough here

July 31, 2023
Used AskMyGP for the appointment and I found it excellent and quick. I had had an accident whilst on holiday and X-rays had been taken. A sprain was diagnosed by that hospital. I saw the GP here but nothing from the hospital had been sent through. They were thorough here and it revealed that things were unfortunately much worse than a sprain. So, I am thankful for their vigilance.

Thank you for your feedback. It is much appreciated. We instigated AskmyGP to assist patients contacting the surgery and thereby decreasing the time it takes for a clinician to assist the patient. We have received over whelming positive comments about AskmyGP so it is nice to hear this system is useful in all scenarios.

Many thanks

Find AskMyGP difficult

July 31, 2023
I haven't been able to work out AskMyGP yet. I am waiting for my son the help me with it. I wanted to see a GP about something specific, but was told I need to use AskMyGP to request that, which is ridiculous and not allowing equal access, just because I cannot use the system.

Thank you for your feedback, if you can not use the AskmyGP system or do not have an email address then the receptionist can add this on your behalf. We always ask patients in the first instance to do this themselves so that it free's up the telephone for exactly the reason you have left your feedback, for patients who are unable .
The Care Navigators/receptionists can not book appointments directly with a GP.
Once a clinician has received your submitted request via AskmyGP then they will contact you directly to arrange any necessary advise etc.
Thank you

Did not hear the 'beep'

July 31, 2023
I sat down the opposite end of the screen, and did not hear the 'beep'. I have good hearing too. You do not tend to sit watching the screen the whole time you are waiting, so it needs to be a better level, or they could link the beep to a speaker for the other end of the surgery.

Thank you for your feedback, this is being investigated in the mean time please be assured if a patient does not arrive at the clinicians room and the patient has checked in at either reception or the self check in screen then the clinician will call the patient.
Many thanks

'Beep' needs to be louder

July 25, 2023
I did not realise I was being called into my appointment until another patient checked if it was me, and of course by then, the room number has gone too, so you are feeling a bit silly wondering the corridor looking for where you have to be. Often you do not know specifically who you are seeing, so again you are unsure what door you could identify with a name on if you have missed it on the screen.

Thank you for your feedback.
The name clinicians name is on the door of the clinical room if you are unsure however, we are aware that the beep of the calling screen may at times need to be louder, I shall further investigate if this is possible in the mean time please be reassured that once you are checked in at reception or by the self check in screen in the foyer the clinician will call you/collect you from reception if necessary.
Many thanks
