Very impressed with the staff

Stroke services
June 1, 2017
I was very impressed with the staff at the Stroke unit in Ipswich hospital. The care they have given my father and that I observed being given to other patients on the ward was excellent. As a person trained in older people's care and support it was apparent that they were treating the patients with a view to their recovery but also respecting their right to refuse food or treatment. Well done to all involved.

supported a client with learning disabilities

Accident and emergency services

A service user that i support through Headway Suffolk was admitted to Ipswich hospital & had a nine day stay, they first visited A&E then was transferred to the surgical assessment unit, from there they had four days in critical care then was moved to Kirton ward. This individual has quite severe learning disabilities & taking them out of their usual routine & being unwell can be a very traumatic time for them, we supported them 24 hours a day whilst they were in hospital & I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the staff in the different wards that looked after them, they were fantastic in the way they spoke to them, gave them reassurance, had patience with them & you could see they generally cared. If it wasn't for this then I feel the experience would of been very different & negative for them. The hospital staff were also a great support to my team that were up there.
a big thank you to all that looked after them.

Miscommunication

May 25, 2017
Staff (GP and paramedic) didn't listen to staff at Oakwood House who know the resident well - saying she had an infection. On resident's return to her home we had received a call to inform us of her return saying she was constipated. On return she had a urine infection. This was totally the wrong information

Long waits for medication and delayed discharge

May 25, 2017
Getting medication from the hospital takes a long time and delays going home which stops another patient getting a bed
