Amazing MS specialist nurse

The care and support available from them is great and having the ability to contact by phone or email if any issues arise is brilliant, a great service.

Long wait

Audiology
April 8, 2025
I had reccurring ear infections which I believe were not addressed properly by my surgery. I went for a hearing check at Specsavers and they identified that I had a more significant problem and I was referred on to ENT. I am now facing a 42 week wait for the appointment and in the meantime I have now lost hearing in the ear.

Children's audiology

Paediatrics/children services
April 8, 2025
My child was referred to audiology for an appointment but we were given no details about what would happen at the appointment. It turned out that the Consultant was going to syringe his ears which we hadn't prepared him for so it became a bit of a battle as he was scared and with no toys available to distract him it wasn't a good experience. If you let parents know what to expect they can then prepare children for their procedures.

Not advised

Paediatrics/children services
April 8, 2025
My child needed to have a blood test but paediatrics don't let you know that you can buy Emla cream for a couple of pounds to help numb the area and make the whole process less traumatic for both the child and parent who ultimately has to hold them still. Other hospitals advise that parents can buy the cream and it was only after talking to another parent that I found out about it. It could so easily be added to the letter sent out.

Allergies testing

Paediatrics/children services
April 8, 2025
My child was going in for allergies testing and we were sent an appointment that we couldn't make. When I spoke to the team we had a discussion about changing the date and they were very helpful and flexible about when the appointment could be to fit it around my work, I work in health. But then the appointment was cancelled by the hospital. I tried to rearrange for an out of work time as the notice time given for the new appointment did not give me enough time to rearrange my own work. I was then told that you could only cancel three times before they would consider discharging my child. Even when I said that the hospital had cancelled the second appointment and explained that I needed notice due to my work it didn't seem to matter. I was very disappointed with the lack of flexibility and understanding that some jobs can't just be dropped.

More Stoma care awareness on ward

wards
April 7, 2025
I recently had to spend some time on a ward overnight, I have a stoma and since I have had it I am always very aware of smells that can happen, I asked the nurse more than once for some help and I didnt get help quickly enough and my stoma bag had burst, I was asking for help to get me out of a mess and she said to me 'there are others on this ward, if I didnt like it there was the door', I was shocked and didnt feel very good after that.

In A & E all night

Accident and emergency services
April 7, 2025
I am diabetic and my levels were sky high and I felt very unwell so I went to A & E. I arrived at midnight on Sunday and was there and seen on Monday morning. I was then admitted to Brandon ward for 4 nights, variious tests and scans done, slight kidney infection was also identified, I was then moved to Capel ward until I was discharged, the care I received was excellent on the ward.

Long wait to be seen in A & E

Accident and emergency services

I waited for hours in A & E the sitting and waiting was so painful, they did bring some pain relief but it was unbearable. I was amazed that they even came round with tea and sandwiches, never seen that before.
