Very pleased

I was very pleased with how quickly I was referred, seen and then operated on for a skin cancer. It was a day case and each member of staff I had contact with was very good and explained what was happening at each stage.
Going through A&E isn't appropriate

When a cancer patient is unwell although it is brilliant to have the red card to call when things aren't good you still have to go in via A&E. We had an 8 hour wait while feeling really unwell during chemo treatment. The ward was expecting us to be sent quickly up to them but instead we had the long wait. When we were there my wife's chemo drugs went missing which caused more problems that needed to be sorted out. There needs to be another triage route in to the support that is needed without having to go through A&E.

Hysteroscopy procedure was very painful

I was called in following a GP referral for a Hysteroscopy, I had an appointment letter and a phone call but no additional guidance or details, I asked over the phone if I needed to bring someone else with me but the staff member I spoke with said it was not essential but I did decide in the end to take my sister with me. I was asked on arrival had I received details of what was going to happen on the day? I had not receoved anything other than the letter. All I can say was that I was not expecting it to be as painful or horrible as I experienced. I was offered gas and air and it really didnt make any difference. I wasnt told to take any painkilers before the procedure which might have helped a bit! I really dont think ladies should go for this procedure without being given some warning, I have to still go back for more procedures as they found polyps and I am so full of anxiety from this first experience I phoned to ask if I could have a general anesthetic which they said yes, but why was this not offered to me before? it was such an ordeal for me, it really would have helped to have been given some options and better guidance, sedation or something. I think if nothing else definately warn other ladies to take someone with them as a support. Through it all the staff were very kind and compassionate to me.
Parking is a nightmare - anxiety high

I went in for my recall procedure which requires me to have an exploratory test which entails a camera down my throat, I have a medical condition called Barrett's oesophagus. The staff team really do look after me well, this time it did leave me with a soreness in my throat whereas last time it didn't, not sure why that was. The biggest issue at the hospital is the parking, it takes forever to find a space, you just have to wait which raises your blood pressure and I have a heart issue. I have chosen to use the bus on the last occasion but it is not ideal.
difficult

Very difficult - have to sit and wait while medications are prepared even though the consultant knows what they will be prescribing before you even walk in to the appointment. When there are delays or problems getting from one side of the hospital is quite a walk, not great when you're not feeling good.
great care

I've used a few different departments including ENT, A&E and Orthopaedics and all have been good. The care has been great with the doctors explaining everything very well.
Hard to wait

3 weeks ago I had an MRI scan for cancer and I'm now waiting to hear the results which is very hard, it seems forever.
Caring and friendly staff
Cancer services

I was receiving cancer treatment on a weekly basis but it meant that I didn't really have a relationship with staff unlike other patients who were going in more regularly although the staff were caring and friendly. I found that I had much more support and familiarity when having my mammograms.

Finding a way through the system it isn't always easy. To get other treatments or scans when you are concerned something is going on has proved very difficult as my GPs hands are tied and I need to have a consultant to be able to refer me but I've been discharged
