Very quick

Assessment Ward
December 24, 2024
I went in to the acute admission unit and they were all brilliant. With in two hours I had a range of tests done and it was a lovely environment to be in with great staff. I was then fast tracked to urology in two weeks time. Very impressed.

Agency staff not as attentive

Lavenham
December 24, 2024
I was overall quite happy how they treated me when on the ward. When on the ward I had experienced some breathing difficulty but it wasnt too bad. I thought that I would just wait for what I knew to be the 4 hours observation checks, so I waited and they never came to do them. I was 6 days in, I found the staff to be lovely and kind and professional however I did notice a distinct difference in attentiveness from the agency staff they were not so good as the general hospital nurses, and at times I noticed issues of loss of dignity for the patient. I did observe that staff generally were overworked and not enough staff on the ward. I had an experience where the fire alarm went off and they put me in a room, I was a bit unsure about that.

Poor experience with discharge info

wards
December 23, 2024
My husband went into hospital 6 weeks ago and while he was in there he had an OT come to see him, he was given tablets on discharge which he had to take before eating, they gave no direction as to what he can eat, my daughter has had to do her own online research to get help on this for her dad, he has a 60 mins window of time after the tablets to eat. He did not see a dietician. Another thing is his medications are in short supply, the communication has been poor generally from hospital to patient/family. He was shifted around wards during the 6 weeks stay, Brantham, Waveney, Wadringfield, Kirton. On the day before his actual discharge he was moved from the discharge area where he stayed overnight and had nothing to eat. He has to go back to Ipswich hospital for all of his follow up appointments which is a way from Felixstowe, if only follow up appointments could be done at the Felixstowe regional hospital.

Second to none

Orthopaedics
December 23, 2024
Received second to none care from staff but all my issues although linked are all dealt with by different consultants and teams. I then have different physio teams too. I do feel that if knee operation had been done earlier I wouldn't have ended up falling and breaking my shoulders. I was waiting for shoulder surgery and had been told to expect an operation in August which would've been nearly a 3 month wait but I then received a letter to say it was delayed. Before Ahps would do the referral for my knee they said I had to get my blood sugars under control but that then delayed doing the referral further. In total its been 2.5 years but with five falls and two broken shoulders as a result. I do find it a bit odd that covid is still being blamed for the delays. Both my knee and shoulder need operating on but now I can't have the shoulder done. Until my knee is fixed my risk of falling due to it giving way is still there.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your wait for surgery and how this has contributed to further falls and broken shoulders. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused.

We would like to look into this further but require some information to do so, if you are happy for us to do this please give me a call on 01473 702101. Many thanks Steve Bruce Patient Experience Team

Good physio staff

Orthopaedics
December 23, 2024
I originally saw the consultant in Jan 2023 as I needed a knee operation following an accident. I've just had the operation in Nov 2024 which was difficult to wait for as I did get worse during that time. I've had the operation now and although I was meant to be a day case I was kept in for two nights in the end. Today was my second physio appointment and the staff have been good, explaining the exercises and what to do. The only bit I feel that could have been improved was overnight on the ward, some staff weren't as patient or kind to people as they could've been. I realise they are really busy and they need more staff but the way they spoke wasn't very kind at times, the day staff were different.

First class treatment

Cancer services
December 23, 2024
I had a breast operation 11 days ago and received brilliant, first class treatment and care. I was referred quickly by my GP and was operated on quickly. I was told there was a shorter wait for the operation here so opted to come to this hospital for the treatment rather than west Suffolk. I was very happy I was seen so quickly and with the information I was given. The stay in hospital was meant to be over the day but in the end I stayed for an extra two nights in the end and I really felt that staff listened to how I was feeling. Everyone from cleaners to consultants were all great and you can't get any better care than what I received.

Great care

Cancer services
December 23, 2024
The GP did the referral to hospital very quickly and was then seen by the consultant, had scans and the surgery 4 weeks later. I'm now two weeks post surgery and doing well. They have being providing enough information and I was prepared for an overnight stay but was able to come home the same day. It was also great staff that told me about the free parking that's available.

Brilliant physios

Physiotherapy
December 23, 2024
I had my knee surgery a week ago so it's very early but staff have been brilliant making sure I fully understand what I need to be doing and they explain it all so well. The group session I attended before the operation was very informative and when it to plenty of detail. I was seen as a day case for the surgery and I was ready to be discharged the next day, there was nothing that could've been better other than waiting one and a half years.
