Lovely staff

December 17, 2024
I expected my appointment for the orthotics clinic in February but called them due to the pain I was in and was then given a cancellation appointment in December which was brilliant. I've been measured for the brace and I've been told I'll come back in 4-6 weeks for the fitting. Staff have been great and have explained what to expect and have been so polite.

Marvellous theatre team

Orthopaedics
December 17, 2024
I recently had my knee replacement done at the hospital and I was given the choice of a spinal or general anaesthetic and I opted for the spinal . The marvellous theatre staff really put me at ease as they were so chatty and friendly. I was able to request some music to be played while the operation took place. A few weeks before the operation I was contacted to say the surgery would be carried out by a different surgeon which was slightly worrying but I was able to meet them and ask questions which was good. After the operation the physio has been amazing. I've had 6 sessions in total with two members of staff. They have been wonderfully reassuring and giving me confidence. The pain is still an issue but I wouldn't be where I am with out them. I was planning to go privately but I really don't believe I would've got the care I've received if I had both during the operation and after. Waiting for the operation was hard due to the pain and that is why I considered going private.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your kind feedback, I have passed your kind comments onto the Matron for Surgery to share with her wider team. I am sorry that the wait for your operation and the anxiety that may have been caused by having a change in surgeon. I hope you are continuing to make a good recovery at home and the pain is starting to ease as you recover. Many thanks

I attend the eye clinic regularly and the team although very busy have been very good. It does feel very busy when you are in the department but I'm confident in all the staff and how they are trying to help.

Great

Orthopaedics
December 17, 2024
I've just had my knee done at the new orthopaedic centre which was wonderful. I joined the list for the operation in September '23 and have then had the operation in Nov 24 which I feel was a good time period, I thought it would be longer. It was lovely having my own room and the nurses came in t check on me after the operation regularly and they can see you through the large windows but it was nice not being watched by other patients. Whenever I used the call bell I was attended to quickly. For me getting there wasn't that much different than going to Ipswich and it was such a great place to be, everything was lovely and clean. Since the operation, I had my first physio appointment at my surgery and will now becoming to the hospital again for the rest of my physio appointments. I've been impressed by all the care I've had both here and in Colchester.

Oncology

I don't have anything negative to say at all, there is always someone on the end of the phone for me as needed whether it be emotional support or medical concerns, they offer first class treatment, they give regular scans, I had an operation 5 years ago. Staff are brilliant and informative.

Very good Renal Clinic

Nephrology

I have been on iron tablets from the GP, my iron levels are low and they asked me at the hospital why I dont have an iron infusion? so I went for it and I have now had two iron infusions and I feel so much better in myself. I will go back to the specialist in 6 months time, I always go for a blood test just before seeing him, they will monitor and I do feel cared for by them and they do listen to me, it is a very good clinic and staff are very good, the consultant knows their stuff, they can be difficult to understand with their accent but they do listen well and they know my requirements.

Stroke Team are amazing

Stroke services
December 11, 2024
The Stroke team are fantastic in every way, equipment was given quickly, the team visited me for 7 weeks, I had the same two nurses on a regular basis. They watched and monitored me and made sure I was good before, they took me a little further distance each visit until I was ok, they have given me a trolley, 6 months on I'm signed off now. I would recommend the team to anyone they are a credit to the whole NHS, cannot speak highly enough about them.

Seating space is abismal in new A & E

Accident and emergency services
December 11, 2024
I had a need to go to the new A & E department at Ipswich hospital recently, you see the first triage nurse and all is fine then the seating area is abismal, not enough room, my parent uses a wheelchair and there was not any wheelchair provision spaces so I had to position them directly in front of me. People can hear everything when patients arrive nothing is private. When we were called to go through I had to navigate with my parent in their wheelchair quite a way to the room. We had to wait for a scan and that area was clean and there was just enough room for a wheelchair in that area. No refreshment vending machines available so a lady came round with drinks, to be fair they were all free. The toilet was not well signposted. Thankfully the scan was done quite prompt, we had a 3 hour wait overall. I found the staff on duty to be kind in their approach but it was cramped and uncomfortable in the waiting area.

Staff too busy

Capel ward
December 11, 2024
When I was on Capel Ward in 2022 the staff were so busy I couldn't get anyone to notice me. I had a difficult experience with another patient who I told to leave me alone but the staff were so busy they didn't seem to even notice me, and just couldn't find the space to report it when I was discharged I just wanted to get home.

Abrupt doctor

Brantham ward
December 11, 2024
I have had lung problems for all of my life and my GP understood my issues at the time and tried hard to get me admitted into hospital when I had E Coli in June 24 because the right medication for E Coli for me need to be given via an IV. One of the consultants when they saw me was abrupt in their attitude towards me and said that they wanted me out of hospital in a rather rude tone I felt.
