Cardiac dept gives excellent treatment
Cardiology

The cardiac unit at Ipswich hospital has been very helpful to us, my spouse was admitted to this unit and when I arrived to see them I was taken into cardiology by the hospital staff to find them which of itself was very good, I didn't have to worry or panic about where I was going. The treatment they were given was excellent, a totally reliable service. The only thing I need to mention which is near impossible is the car parking situation, you can be driving around for ages before you find a parking bay, this is very problematic please can this be looked at.
The staff as inpatient was superb.

I was in for 5 days and all staff were great. The work load was heavy I thought. The staff seemed to be doing very long shifts but they never complained and were aways willing to help. BUT PARKING needs to be sorted cars going round and round trying to find a spot . People are stressed out of there minds even before they arrive. THIS NEEDS TO BE SORTED.

Follow up appointments have been good and staff have answered all the questions I've had. Letters have arrived in time for me to arrange care and support for a family member.
Good cancer care
Cancer services

My spouse received good cancer care from staff however we were told that we would be contacted by the Macmillan team but that didn't happen. The hospice carers were excellent when they got involved and were so supportive.
Everything has been explained at all steps along the way.

I had my knee replacement 4 months ago after just a 6 month wait. I knew what to expect but did have to attend the information session run by the nurses and was given exercises / physio to do . Everything has been explained at all steps along the way. I had 5 appointments with the physio team after the surgery which has worked well.

In the last 6 months I've seen the consultant here for my knee replacement and I've just been given a date in a couple of weeks in November for the operation. I had my other knee done privately last year and I've found that even though I haven't attended an information session I've been given plenty of information and I've been through the process before. I feel that it has been a more comprehensive than when I had my other knee done. I've been given advice about what to do before and after the operation, feel well prepared and will be having the operation at the new orthopaedic centre.
7 month wait to see consultant

I was referred to the hospital in April and I have now been told by the consultant that I will have my hip operation in about 9 months time which is better than I feared. I've been pleased with everything so far when I've had my appointments. They've discussed what will happen next and they've put me at ease with their friendly approach. AHP did the referral straightaway when I saw them as the situation was not going to be helped by physio. The parking at the hospital is difficult now.
Been really good

Everything including the treatment plan for my spinal problem has been explained but the finer details as to why they are making those decisions hasn't been. I feel that I can ask questions, however, being able to get them in is an issue at times. In the early stages it took a long time to get understood and listened to about the issues I was experiencing and its been 2 years since I first visited my GP for the problem.
Taken time

It's taken 2 years to get an initial appointment. When the GP did the referral for my back issue there was then a bit of a wait for the appointment in June/ July this year which went well. I've now had further xrays and an MRI and my visit today is to hear the results and the next steps. We're hoping to avoid an operation if at all possible but we've mainly seen nurses in appointments not consultants. The process to get to the hospital seems a bit backward, with MRI and xrays only being done once under the consultant rather than before being seen by physios. The hospital all looks very nice but maybe money should be invested in staff instead.
Very good

Both my knees were done about 12 years ago and one has needed to be redone recently. I only had to do 4 sessions of physio before being referred. I knew it would be a bit of a wait for the operation and I've been very pleased with how discussions at appointments have taken place. I've had better care here than when I went private years ago and the follow up care and physio has been very good.
