It was overall good. But staff were rushed.

Not enough midwives. Left with canula still in my arm. Catheta was put under my leg. Blocking the tube Following c section. For hours. No one noticed for about 8 hours. Very rushed discharge and not enough help getting dressed and loading baby into car seat. No visitors to help.
Excellent care.

I received excellent care whilst having my baby during the pandemic. The midwives were brilliant.

Midwife team were clearly over stretched with a number of women all delivering babies at the same time. However they showed compassion and were supportive through a very quick labour for me and talked me through each element of what was happening and what decisions were being made.
Not as bad as it sounds.

Gestational diabetes info and guidance very outdated. Very rude and unprofessional gestational diabetes nurse who thrust it upon me to be induced. No mention of why they do it or why they have mentioned it for me, no discussion at all and just decided I would go along with it and asked when I’d like to be booked in for induction.
The specialist midwife (who has now sadly retired) was absolutely fabulous, very kind, caring and professional.
Midwives who gave sweeps were very patient and understanding, maintained dignity as much as possible.
Midwives who delivered my son made me feel safe and supported but very encouraging. A student actually delivered my son and she was amazing, very competent.

All bar one lady who I think was actually a health care assistant within the maternity department upon intake, I couldn’t fault the care that we received when having my daughter. Upon admission my blood pressure was high and therefore they were closely monitoring both myself and my daughter. My labour developed quite quickly and when pushing she got stuck and the alarm was sounded for others to come in and assist. At every point my midwife communicated with me telling me what was happening and called for second opinions at various points. I felt very secure in their care and believe I had a very good experience.
Awful labour/birth experience

Forced into unwanted induction. Staff did not execute anything quick enough. CTG tracings were ignored by consultant despite midwives flagging them as suspicious. Me and baby had sepsis, staff did not act quick enough for a C section and after a long labour feeling neglected/ failed epidural & failed forceps, my daughter was still born via crash C sec. She had extensive resuscitation and therapies in a different hospital. I’m so lucky she is with me today. The care I received after her birth was insensitive and nothing short of absolutely shocking. All during covid times (2020).
midwives overworked

The maternity team was short staffed and had no midwife for me when I was already in active labour. Due to the amount of time it took to get someone to be with me 24/7 I missed out on the birthing plan I wanted. Staff unprepared to deliver baby, delivered wearing no apron etc.
I had my baby in November. I was induced

And was checked on regularly, I wasn’t asked to wear a mask while in labour which I was anxious about. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, the midwives were all supportive and reassuring, before, during and after labour. I had an awful experiences at Bury with my 1st baby but this was so much nicer. I can’t praise the midwives enough (I wish I remembered names). The only lady who was unfriendly was a woman who was rude and snotty that I was bottle feeding but everyone else was faultless. They even held my baby for me for an hour so I could have some sleep (she didn’t want to be put down & I was in hospital for 2 1/2 days) which was really kind. Thankyou so much.
Uninformed and unsupportive

Department was not as busy as could be, in my room I was the only one for majority of time but staff particularly giving birth were rude, unhelpful and I was left in the bay straight after having an assisted birth for hours, I couldn’t even get up to dress my baby or put him down / get a nappy because I had had an epidural. I had to ask multiple times for food as I hadn’t eaten for over 12 hours and for water to which I got told where I could fill the jug up.
The younger staff were a lot more pleasant than the older more senior midwives. I would have to ring the buzzer for pain relief, once they said I couldn’t have more but the previous time I’d asked no one ever brought it to me but obviously marked that they had on my records. No GD food appropriate either.
