A good service with Maxillofacial team
Oral and Maxillofacial
January 2, 2025
I went for my check up with the Maxillofacial clinic, I feel they give a very good service. Then a letter came to cancel my appointment not giving any reason why. they will send another but that type of thing is frustrating as you book things around appointments.
Great physios
Maternity

After a severe tear when having my baby I was rushed into surgery but my partner wasn't given any support really when I disappeared. The surgery went well and and the after care and physio support was excellent.
Great maternity
Maternity

I was really pleased with my birth experience it was all very good and support after was great. The only issue was just how hot the ward was, it was almost unbearable.
A&E great
Accident and emergency services
November 13, 2024
A&E was quiet when I arrived and I was seen very quickly. I was only there for 1.5hrs and had the xray I needed in that time. I was then told that I would be contacted if there was anything wrong on the xray, I would've preferred to be called to let me know either way as it is more reassuring as there is always the worry they've forgotten you. I understand that is more difficult for the staff but better for the patient.
Needed a better discharge

My appointments were at Ipswich hospital but my operation to have a tumour from my lung and two lymph nodes removed was done at Norfolk and Norwich hospital. The issue for me came when I was discharged from the hospital, I felt rushed out, they did eventually arrange transport home for me but the main issue was that I was given a large bag and I asked what it was and was told it was my medication which included an injectable medication which had to go into my tummy. I had not been shown how to do this. I later phoned the GP and the hospital but neither were able to come and show me how to do this, I just wanted to be sure that I was doing it correctly, but I did figure it out but I really do think this should have been shown to me before I was discharged.
Staff overstretched on the wards at night
September 19, 2024
I was an inpatient on one of the wards and I needed pain relief, I was told to press the buzzer if I needed help and I ended waiting 4 hours before staff came and I could get the pain relief I needed, that really needs to be improved. Staff on the whole were lovely with their attitude but appeared to be understaffed.
Very impressed
September 5, 2024
I was very impressed by all staff at the hospital when I took my young son for a scan. They had arranged for the play worker to be in our appointment on the children's ward when he had his cannula inserted and the doctor and nurse were really engaging and made him feel relaxed. He had a good experience, with no tears and left the ward as happy as when he came in. The bubbles and toys available were a great idea to have. We then went to nuclear medicine where again all the staff were friendly and chatty with him putting him at ease. Everything was explained well throughout the scan and I was very impressed. A previous experience at a different hospital was much more traumatic but this really couldn't have been any better, thank you.
Hard to get updates
May 31, 2024
I was unable to get updates on a family member when they were in hospital. I tried 7 times and there was no answer , I tried the switchboard but had no luck there either so I went up to the ward instead. On another occasion someone picked up but then put the phone down on me.
Good care
Gynaecology
January 4, 2024
Good care and treatment provided but I was initially told I would have to wait 9 months to see the gynae consultant and then there would be a 2 year wait for the hysterecomy so I went private. I saw the consultant for the initial appointment and then ended up waiting just under six months for the operation in the end. I was really happy with the care and information provided pre and post op it was just the waiting times that would've been so long.

Requested referral to Rheumatology via GP 25th Oct and got an appointment at NNUH for 19th Dec which I think is impressively fast. Appointment was on time, consultant very thorough, next appointment scheduled for 6 months. Compared to my previous experience of a major London Rheumatology dept, I found NNUH super efficient.
