When I had to go in for an operation I left the ward for the operation but when I returned my glasses had gone missing. I can't understand how they could go missing so easily and not be found. Luckily I had another pair at home that I could use.
Good support for parents of ill children
Paediatrics/children services

Excellent care for our 2 children, only a few months old with breathing problems. We (parents) were given a room each in order that we could stay whilst they were in.
Maternity care and tongue-tie
Maternity

2nd child born at this time. Very good support, had a cesarean. However I was told "no overnight stays are offered" I knew about them as 2 years ago my partner was able to stay, which was excellent. With a first child I was particularly daunted so appreciated the extra support. First child had tongue-tie which was diagnosed very quickly by breast feeding support and this time (November) there was also tongue-tie but took two weeks to diagnose and was snipped at Colchester.
Antenatal classes need to be realistic not enough info about 'pain in breast feeding' and the potential of tongue-tie and how you can tell if it could be an issue.

Looked after well (from partners perspective). Given a room and I felt I was offered more than those on a general ward and I saw men leaving at 9pm but I was offered an overnight stay (although I didn't take them up on it as I felt I should get a better nights sleep at home and be able to then look after babies next day whilst mum sleeps). My friend was in the general ward and told me he had to go home, whereas he'd have preferred to stay.
Feel consideration needs to be given , if in long labours, to you needing something to eat. You do not want to leave partners side to get something.

A & E experience of a person with dementia
Accident and emergency services
April 2, 2019
My mother who has severe dementia and Alzheimer’s, and normally resides in a care home was admitted to A and E without my knowledge via paramedic with no one accompanying her. By the time I arrived my mother had been on her own not knowing where she was. The dementia wards at Ipswich hospital are second to none it is such a contrast that the staff in the A and E dept have had so little dementia training.
Radiotherapy brilliant
Cancer services

Its a brilliant department, they are very good with friendly great staff. They sort out anything that comes up unlike other departments who say its not for them to do. It was good to have a treatment plan in advance so that we could plan better. They are spot on and really are a good team from reception staff who go aboe and beyond and all the way through to the radiographers. The consultant has been very good at explaining everythin well and it was great my wife could come in to the discussions with me.
Oncology very good
Cancer services

The department is very good and they do everything well. Sometimes there are quite long waits to be seen in the clinics but at least they now let you know there are delays. Visits like yesterday, when we are seen really quickly are great but this can't happen all the time.
Difficult to talk to staff
unknown
March 19, 2019
My wife stayed for two weeks but I have to say it wasn't great. The biggest issue on the ward is being able to talk to someone, the nures cover so many parts of the ward that you hardly ever see them and it's difficult to get information about what is happening. When she was discharged it was quite slow but the most difficult aspect was getting back to the car which was so far away.
Pain management doesn't address issues
Pain management
March 12, 2019
The pain management doctor and system currently hasn't met my needs, it doesn't address the issues. I've been on three courses none of which have helped in the slightest. I have a new doctor to see and I'm hoping this will make a difference. I just don't feel they offer much support. I did see the psychiatrist for six sessions and this did work and help for a while I was seeing them but after it all stopped there was no ongoing support.
Great care and support
Diabetic Medicine
March 12, 2019
The diabetic clinic at the hospital is very good, I get very good support, advice and care. NICE guidelines suggest type 1 diabetics can have a monitoring device which tracks the condition without the need to prick your finger regularly, it has a patch on the patients arm. This is not available in Suffolk but I believe it should be as it makes monitoring simpler and quicker to do.
