Much better than last time

Maternity
February 25, 2019
My experience was much better than the last time I was in. I was induced in the morning this time due to the baby being small. I had them at 2.30 am. My partner was sent home at 5 am. I was in for 3 days. Having them stay would have been helpful, and it was bizarre that they had to leave at 5 am, so we had little time together with our new baby. As we do not live locally or drive, trying to get someone to come and pick my partner up at 5 am. I was not told of the option of an overnight stay, I wish they had.

Good support across the team

Looked after me very well. Good support from Midwives. Also had good support from the lady who is 'Breast feeding' specific. There was a small amount of 'tongue-tie issue. They hinted that my partner may wish to stay over night, but he will be very tired to do so, so should go home. We were not given the choice, it was put in a way that made us feel he had to go home.

excellent community midwives...hospital inhum

Maternity
February 22, 2019
I planned a home birth. Community midwives were excellent but due to dropping bp I was referred to hospital. In hospital midwives were obsessively checking machines with little regard for bedside manner, and even started telling me I was at risk of stroke /seizures mid labour! After birth my baby had issues feeding and one midwife was so violent with my baby I had to get help from a breastfeeding helper to get her to understand it was unacceptable. I had no support as my husband wasn't allowed to stay even though I had been in labour for 4 days and was exhausted and in need of support- he qas swnt home immediately after birth! I was woken up 8 hrs after birth to be told I should have been feeding every 2 hrs- but no one had told me or was monitoring this? After discharge I had a month of excruciating breastfeeding and nearly gave up- because my baby had tongue tie and no one diagnosed it when I asked for help. Thankfully I identified it myself due to a bo g by a midwife I found! Generally- shocking 'care' from people who should be qualified to do better. 6 of 8 of my antenatal group had tongue ties- none diagnosed- and all but myself quit breastfeeding before 2 months. Ipswich hospital should realise the gravity of their careless attitude towards tongue ties.

Maternity care great

The consultant led care has been very good, brilliant anything that was needed was arranged straight away and I was very confident in them all including the anaesthetist. After care at the hospital was very good and I was able to go home two days after the birth, which was right. I didn't realise you could pay to have a side room.

Worked so well

February 19, 2019
The frailty assessment base was very good. We were there for 1 1/2 hrs, saw the consultant, physio and pharmacist really quickly. It was a complete MOT and is such a good idea to have all the checks at once. All the follow up tests were arranged and it went smoothly. I did feel the dieticians weren't very good as they suggested supplementing my diet but they only gave suggestion that weren't suitable for my condition.

Worked well as a day case

Oncology

Had a cancer removed earlier this year. The biopsy result did take 4 weeks to come back but once they were back everything progressed quickly and thing were explained well. I was seen as a day case for the operation which worked really well.

Indecisive

February 18, 2019
Nursing care is excellent, and the wards are fine. But there is a terrible lack of communication between the teams and social services. The social care teams seem to be the problem within the hospital, to the point where there appears to be a conflict with whether my father should be in a care home or not. They are unable to make a decision. There is a real lack of consistency, and the social care staff are often opposed to what the doctors say.

Hospital appears terribly understaffed

Geriatric Medicine

Hospital appears terribly understaffed, everybody is trying to tick a box and get the patients out of their hair. They are too fast to discharge, unable to listen, inflexible and unhelpful. Nurses can be wonderful and caring and supportive, doctors also. But it's very very mixed. Physios are terribly unhelpful.

All went well

General Surgery
February 13, 2019
I had a surgical procedure, which all went well, and I was told I could go home fairly soon after the op. I was put into a side room and I think they forgot I was there because it took a very long time before I was discharged! Shame as otherwise it would have been absolutely full marks.
