Disappointing antenatal experience
Maternity
January 10, 2019
It was my first antenatal appointment at the hospital and it was very disappointing. After seeing a lovely and friendly health care assistant for the basic checks I then saw the doctor who obviously didn't want to spend much time with me. I was quickly told that I would be scanned regularly towards the end of the pregnancy but given very little explanation, I was then told I would be induced at a certain point, it was all very 'this is what will be happening' and little discussion or choice was involved. It was such a difference to meeting my midwife for the first time. There was no warmth or friendliness which was a shame and I hope it was only due to the clinic being so busy.
Poor communication
January 9, 2019
A resident got discharged from hospital on 31.08.2018. The resident presented with a 12-15 cm pressure area on the sacral region and this was not picked up, cared, or communicated via the discharge summary.
Wasted so much time and effort
January 9, 2019
One of my residents was discharged form this ward (31.8.18) with a prescription of medication to be administered via a nebuliser. The ward did not send a nebuliser. We tried to obtain one from G.P. 111 out-of-hours and was unable to get one. Finally, Kesgrave Ward confirmed 6/9/18 that it was not indicated for our resident to have been discharged with the medication or a nebuliser. This has wasted so much time and effort. And totally unnecessary. Avoidable.
Staff at Deben Ward were outstanding
January 8, 2019
Staff at Deben Ward were outstanding. My midwife made myself and my partner feel comfortable, safe, laugh and was by my side every second I needed her. As my birthing plan changed quickly, all staff explained what was needed and kept me calm throughout. Tea and toast was offered to my partner the whole time, and fresh water was ready for me when I asked. Our baby was born, and such love and care was shown to him, hugs and congratulations given to ourselves and family. We cannot thank staff enough! Credit to the NHS! Wonderful!
Impressed with urology team
Rehabilitation
January 4, 2019
Was impressed by the urology consultant and the whole team. They explained things very well when things weren't straightforward as had been expected. The consultant herself, was friendly and caring and was still on the ward very late in to the evening. Everything was discussed with my family too, so everyone knew what was happening.
Stowupland ward very good

The care provided on the ward was very good. Each member of staff we came in to contact with was friendly and caring and explained things well.
Pre op issues not highlighted
Day surgery
January 4, 2019
Overall they were very good, however, knowing that I have very complicated health history this was all discussed in depth at the pre-op appointment. On the day of the operation it quickly became evident that the team were unaware of the complications. Rather than being first on the operating list slowly I dropped down and had to wait for additional advice to be sought. Luckily I had family with me as it would've been a very long day sat in a room alone for 6 hours waiting for the operation to go ahead. I do feel that this should've been flagged by the pre-op.
Saved both our lives
Maternity
December 20, 2018
After my uterus erupted at home, things were frantic. I had an emergency 'C' Section and the baby was in special care for a while. We both could have died, but we are here and ok, thanks to this team. I have been advised to have no more children, which is difficult but understandable.
We had a meeting after the event to discuss everything, and my partner and I found that very good to help us process it all.
I do think it is difficult to be on the same ward as new mum's with fully healthy babies. That would be the only change I would suggest needs thinking about.

Looked after me for months

I was admitted very early in my pregnancy as I was constantly vomiting and have a heart condition. My partner was able to stay in with my from time to time.
I had the baby early (September), and what is difficult, is that you are on a general ward where some mum's have their babies with them, but yours is in special care, not knowing if you will get to take them home. This needs to be thought out better.

Looking after me well

I have been having ongoing appointments here. They only issue, is that no one seems to know what is wrong, but I cannot fault them for being thorough. It is just frustrating.
