Care provided good
Imaging
December 10, 2018
I've been happy with the way staff in CT talk with you and explain what is happening. It helps to have staff talk to my wife as well so she can then explain things to me. The care and attention has been good. I've been seen by different departments and all have been good.
Quick investigations and tests

I saw the consultant earlier this week and have then had tests and further investigations organised quickly including a CT. For other consultants and departments its not been so quick. There is often a lack of communication between the hospital and Colchester, which isn't great now they are one, and this has such an impact. The failure with communication does need to be fixed. My files have been lost for 3 months and I was told that I'd seen a consultant when I hadn't but staff wouldn't believe me. I had to write to my consultant in the end to get things sorted out. In CT my experience has been good on each visit and scans have gone smoothly.
Good experience in CT

I've just had another CT scan and as before the staff were very good and fully explained what was going to happen and when. Its all been fairly quickly arranged and I've never had any problems with the hospital, its all been great.
Urology has been good
Urology
December 6, 2018
I've been under the care of the urology department for some time and all my experiences have been good, with staff explaining things well. Letters for appointments have arrived in time and have contained all the information needed.
Stowupland ward great
December 6, 2018
Staff during a recent stay on the ward have been very good. They took time to get to my medication right and kept me well informed. Food on the whole was tasty, not a huge choice but enough. I was well looked after with obs taken regularly.
Support after birth could be better
Maternity
December 6, 2018
We recently had our second baby at the Ipswich Hospital. The care during labour was excellent and our midwife was brilliant. Things did not progress as expected and the doctor was called in. She was also fantastic and clearly highly skilled and proficient. The patient focussed approach deteriorated greatly once transferred to the Orwell ward. Prior to transfer we were told I would not be allowed to stay overnight because “we don’t do that anymore”. My wife was very weak and dizzy after the birth but there was no option to discuss the possibility of me supporting her. The staff are clearly very stretched and so I feel, given this and the reduced levels of care post birth, I and other birthing partners can really help to fill that care gap. Also, it is hard to drive away so soon after the birth of your child. Communication could be vastly improved. You get seen by a range of professionals after the birth of the baby but none of them appear connected and cannot offer communication about what to expect next leaving us with more questions than answers. Discharge, whilst welcome, was very rushed and again this was due to capacity and paperwork processing.
Not impressed

I've not been impressed with the treatment I've received. There have been so many things that haven't gone a they should and operations have made things worse rather than better. I've now been referred to another hospital but there doesn't seem much they can or are willing to do.
Community COPD
Community
December 5, 2018
I've had a very good service, they have been great from April and the exercises they do have all been good, a really supportive service. I was called the other day and after a discussion they decided to discharge me, which was the right decision and they registered me with the NHS England website for COPD patients which is new and has lots of information.
Quick response
Hearing aid services
December 5, 2018
I received hearing aids but one of them started making my ear sore, so we called the clinic for an appointment. I was gien an appointment for a weeks time where they re measured everything and after making alterations it was much better and I was able to wear it again. Very satisfied.

I have macular degeneration and attend the Eye Clinic quite regularly. The staff have always ben good, very kind and helpful. They explain everything very well and although the clinic is very busy appointments are all ok too.
