Communication is poor
June 19, 2019
I have tried calling various wards for info on a patient , and they pick the phones up after ringing for such a long time and then just put i back down they do not even answer . This is not acceptable especially if your calling re a loved one
Frustrated with communications

I am concerned and frustrated, the reason being as soon as I say that I work for a law firm the shutters come down with communication with me. I just feel their is misunderstanding and pre judging of the information I need which is unfair. The staff at the hospital seem to act in a guarded way.
Supportive staff
Accident and emergency services

Went into A&E and kept in for observation. Experienced a heart attack whilst on the ward but staff were with me all the time.
Kind and understanding
Ophthalmology

I attended the cornea clinic and have nothing but praise for the way it is conducted. It is a very busy clinic so inherently one must be prepared for waiting, but in my experience it is worth the wait. There is always kindness and understanding as well as the immense and careful skill in treatment.
Very efficent
Dermatology

We received a call for an appointment on the same day that the GP referred us, My husband was only in for just over an hour for skin cancer surgery. All dealt with very efficiently.
Ignored patient wishes
Maternity

For the delivery of my 4th child I had a birth plan, my first one. This was completely ignored. All my deliveries had been very rapid and my midwife told me that I would need to inform the hospital team right at the beginning what my plan was (I wanted an epidural). I did this and the team ignored me. At 3 cm dilated I said that I wanted the epidural, and they said they'd leave me a few hours. I explained that my deliveries were rapid and I could miss the "window of opportunity" to have the epidural. The midwives at the hospital still didn't listen, and sure enough I went from 3 to 6 to 9cm very quickly and I didn't get what I'd asked for.

I was asked to get blood test by consultant in Neurology and was suggested to tie in when in for a MRI. I called the hospital and they booked me an appointment, which helped as I did not know how busy it would be. As the appointment was at the end of the session it was very quiet.I had barely sat down when I was called through. Phlebotomist was lovely and happy. Considering it was towards end of the shift it was lovely to see.I had a few vials taken and she checked that I'd be ok with it. She was so good I hadn't realised it had been all done and finished. She checked I was ok and said I could sit for a while if not. Very considerate. I complimented her for her kindness and skill, which she thanked me for. It made what can be quite traumatic in the wrong hands very pleasant. Thank you
Very thorough
Neurology
May 31, 2019
I've been under the hospital for more than a year as they are trying to get to the bottom of my pain issues. The neurology consultant is determined to help and so I've now had 3 MRI'S (in for the 3rd one today). I know how much these things cost so I am grateful that they are being so thorough. I've been under hand therapy and they gave me supports and exercises, again very thorough.
