No specialist Tourette's service

June 4, 2024
I was told I needed a mental health assessment but there is no specialised tourettes service in Suffolk. The support offered focussed on PTSD and not the most important issues I had, just because it was the easiest thing to do. I was discharged during covid with out any discussion after fighting to get support for so long. The self referral system is a barrier in its self as you have to be in a place to mentally go through the process which can be very difficult. The system has been little help and you just have to learn to support yourself.

Delays

March 18, 2024
Appointments are delayed and it has taken 7-8 weeks to get support but my past experience has been good and I'm confident in the support to be provided this time as the staff were very good.

Not great

March 11, 2024
I've been on a six week course but no one is saying anything in the group and I feel that it is negatively impacting on people's health and positivity. There is nothing that you can say that isn't viewed as negative and the way staff speak to us is demeaning. The team at Haymills have given the wrong medication and it took a day and a half to sort it out and implied that I was the one making the mistake, even though family knew it was wrong. It has taken a fortnight for them to send information across to my surgery further delaying medication changes. I do feel that the therapy inadvertently shifts the blame on to the individual too.

challenging

March 4, 2024
Waiting times for mental health support are long and challenging for young people who are just waiting and not getting any support.

Better this time

March 4, 2024
I do feel that it is better this time I'm using the service, however, I spent an hour on the phone being asked quite intrusive questions about suicide and very historical issues rather than current ones.

Limited

January 5, 2024
The offer around a new diagnosis was very limited. I had a call from a very nice person but there wasn't much they could offer.

Really challenging

January 4, 2024
The turnover of staff is very high but individual staff have been very good. My child was discharged from the service and was being told they were fine even though we knew they weren't, it isn't good and really doesn't help. The CBT course is going well but we've had to fight to get everything and Wellbeing wouldn't do much as they are under 18. Transferring to adult services has also been really difficult.

Non existent support

December 22, 2023
Support for young people is non existent. They take their own lives because of this as they bounce between A&E and other pointless support but there are no care coordinators available.
