Holbrook and Shotley Surgery - (Shotley)

There are two main Surgeries, in Holbrook and Shotley. Both surgeries have Dispensaries which will issue prescribed drugs to eligible patients (if you live within one mile of an independent Pharmacy we are not permitted to dispense to you.).

Both surgeries are well equipped, purpose designed buildings and are conveniently situated in the centres of their villages on bus routes.

Wheelchair access, disabled toilets and baby changing facilities are provided at both premises. In addition to the main surgeries, there is a surgery held at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, for pupils only.

Helpful and accommodating

I really appreciate the surgery and the staff there. They are so helpful and accommodating and do all they can to fit you in. I get on very well with my GP but at times it is nice to see a female doctor. I can get my blood tests done at the surgery which is really good.

Thank you for commenting on our practice. We have two female GPs: Dr Jane Midforth and Dr Julia Lewis. They offer appointments on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday across both sites. We can now offer blood test appointments later in the morning as we have a second collection so pleased that we can offer this to more patients. Many thanks.

Get to see my own GP

I mainly see my own doctor and get most of my blood tests done at the surgery but because I need to be taken to my appointments it can be difficult to get blood tests at suitable times, if this happens I can go to the Riverside though. Very happy with the care.

The nurses come out to me at home which is great, the care and advice is very good and I really appreciate them visiting, especially to do my blood tests. Overall its a very good surgery.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback for our practice. Our GPs offer home visits to patients who are genuinely housebound and our nurse will come out and do your annual long term condition check. Our phlebotomist takes housebound bloods on a Monday, and we are supported by a great team of community staff who also visit patients at home. We are pleased to be able to provide these services.

The surgery is great. I really like my doctor and although I don't get to see them every time it works well and I like all the doctors at the surgery.

Thank you for your kind comments. We try to encourage continuity where possible so that your named GP gets to know you but, equally, all clinicians are able to view any consultations so can easily look back at what has happened before. We hope this offers the best of both worlds.

Continuity with GPs doesn't always happen and it would be nice if it could happen more. Overall the surgery is very good and doctors and all staff are friendly and approachable.

I get to see the same doctor all the time and staff do all they can to fit you in as quickly as possible. Normally I can get my blood tests done at the surgery but if its difficult there is always the option to go to the Riverside.

Never know which GP you will see

You never know which doctor you will see but you do get an appointment when you need one. Would prefer better continuity. Not too bad getting an appointment. The 10 minute appointments don't give them enough time to discuss issues.

Generally a good surgery

If you want to see a specific GP you have to wait longer but generally they are a good surgery. Would prefer it if they could be open lunchtime.

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately, our GPs have to visit housebound or care home patients at the end of morning surgery and deal with paperwork (blood results, letters from hospital etc) relating to patient care. We can offer a telephone appointment if appropriate or an appointment with GP+ in the evening or at weekends if this would help. Please contact reception for more details.

Generally a good surgery

Generally a good surgery. If you can't get an appointment on the day in the morning the doctor will call back to see if you need to be seen. A clean and tidy surgery but the waiting room is quite small but not much can be done.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. Sadly, there is little we can do about the waiting room size but I'm glad you have found it clean and tidy. We are replacing the flooring soon so hopefully this will brighten the waiting room up whilst you are waiting to be seen.
