Holbrook and Shotley Surgery - (Shotley)

There are two main Surgeries, in Holbrook and Shotley. Both surgeries have Dispensaries which will issue prescribed drugs to eligible patients (if you live within one mile of an independent Pharmacy we are not permitted to dispense to you.).

Both surgeries are well equipped, purpose designed buildings and are conveniently situated in the centres of their villages on bus routes.

Wheelchair access, disabled toilets and baby changing facilities are provided at both premises. In addition to the main surgeries, there is a surgery held at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, for pupils only.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment about our surgery.
As you may be aware, the NHS has a limited budget and many demands upon this. As with all businesses, we have to focus on priorities. At this practice, our priority is patient care: ensuring there are sufficient clinicians to see patients and administration staff to fill prescriptions and ensure referrals are typed and hospital letters are scanned onto our system. We also ensure that our equipment is up-to-date, serviced and calibrated regularly. We appreciate that our buildings are not as modern as some but ensure that they are kept clean and fit for purpose. We have recently employed someone to maintain the buildings and also have regular gardening and window cleaning services. We also have a 5-year rotational redecoration plan in place for both sites, which should start in the next month or so. Finally, we will be replacing flooring at Holbrook and have also replaced all the windows there in the last year. We will do so at Shotley once finances permit.

Happy with my doctor

April 29, 2015
Overall I am happy with my doctor and I like his attitude. But last year I was called on the phone and asked about being resuscitated but I didn't feel this was some thing I wanted to decide while on the phone. Getting to appointments is difficult so the doctor often calls me to discuss things so I don't go in unnecessarily.

Appreciate home visits

For most of my appointments I go to the surgery however when I was really unwell my doctor came out to me and did a house visit. The nurses also do my monthly blood tests at home and they are lovely.

Test results letter made me worry

April 29, 2015
Following blood tests I received a letter to say I had abnormalities in the results and that they needed to see me, when I went to the appointment it was only showing slightly low in salt which they will not do anything about. This could have been said over the phone and I wouldn't have been worrying.

Appointment changed by the surgery

April 29, 2015
I had an appointment to see the doctor about my leg but the receptionist called and asked me to move the time which I did. But when I turned up the doctor only wanted to talk about Alzheimer's and said to book another appointment next week for my leg. The appointment was done in such a way that it just made me worry more rather than addressing my leg problem.
