Excellent but appointments problematic
February 21, 2017
Care and treatment at the hospital in a varietyof departments has been very good. After having treatment for blood issues we have just been asked to go for a blood test again but this time for blood group, which you would have thought would've been done some time ago.
Change the appointment system so that people who have email receive it that way rather than by post, save money.
If patients are there why can't they book next appointment when they are in the hospital? At times we've come out of our appointment and not been able to talk to a receptionist as they've gone.

Staff wonderful, system not working

While my husband is receiving treatment I am trying to sort out a problem with a prescription that should have been available two days ago. There seems to be an issue with the pharmacy at the moment (Feb 2017). Staff have done all they can on different wards to help me but they don't seem to be able to manage the system that has to be negotiated to sort problems out when they are in different departments. There is no coordination between them and no one seems to know what to do. I have had to walk all over the hospital to try and find someone to validate the prescription that should have been done days ago. I've had to be quite assertive to get the help I've had and if my husband was on his own how would he be able to do this while having treatment. It has been incredibly frustrating having all these issues to face and should be much simpler.
Home within hours.

Plan was to have my son at the unit and although it was quicker than expected there was someone waiting for us. It was all great and we were home within a few hours. A very good experience
Different midwife for every appointment.
Maternity

I've had a different midwife for every appointment and with a high risk pregnancy this wasn't good. There is also only one day when you can see a midwife which doesn't always fit in with things. A little flexibility would help

Care cannot be better than this experience. Amazing knowledge of staff and caring all over the department. I never felt stressed even though my wife was undergoing a caesarian section.
Staff reassured and cared well.
Keep it up!

End of life care

My Mum was in Washbrook ward for 5 weeks prior to her death in December. We feel that her care was adequate. Some nursing/HCA staff were excellent but the majority were just ok and a few gave the impression that it was all too much trouble. When Mum or a family member rang her bell there was often a long wait before help arrived.. Some staff were so lovely - making sure that her hair was brushed and she had a clean nightshirt on - almost as important to her wellbeing as her clinical care, which was very good.

I am 90 years old and confined to a wheelchair following a stroke 11 years ago. I attended the hospital for a cataract operation according to my discharge letter. I was very happy with my treatment during the operation and throughout my time in the hospital.
Very poor

One of our residents needs assessment to prove her mobility is back to some extent. She is using hoist for transfers at the moment. Staff nurse informed 3 times of requirement for assessment but they don't want to come as the resident's behaviour is challenging and because of previous experience. GP and myself wasted time, but they were adamant, saying she was assessed 1 year ago and to continue using hoist and slings for her transfers. They finally came after management interfered quoting safeguarding
