Poor. Overlooked appointment, lost records and unfriendly doctor
Ophthalmology
December 20, 2016
I was kept waiting for over an hour in outpatients waiting area because the eye department hadn't realised I was there despite having checked in and been given a queuing ticket for my pre-arranged emergency appointment. There was nobody on eye department reception to complain to, I had to find a nurse to ask her why I had not been seen for over an hour. She was helpful and got me seen straight away with a nurse. I was then passed on to a consultant who was a locum specialist and not a hospital staff consultant. I did not find her very friendly or caring. Also, in the past, the eye department "lost" the digital photos they had taken over several years for a family member to track pictures of the back of their eyes to monitor eye health. The eye department had to start afresh with new digital photos at the next eye appointment, a waste of historic data
Good care

I stayed at the hospital for a number of weeks and the care staff gave me was good. I was admitted in February 2016 then sent home but very quickly I went back in to hospital where I stayed for a long time

All the staff were so good, brilliant. I have an annual check up, they have been really supportiv
Fair but lack of communication with doctors and problem with care.

Son went into paediatric to have a canular fitted. He said that it didn't feel right but it was only when they tried to give him the nuclear medicine they admitted that it wasn't fitted correctly. The next appointment to have the procedure is four months away. I'm also unclear what his diagnosis actually is and the consultants are reluctant to say what it might be
Excellent service and after care

Have visited a number of different outpatient cilnics lately and they have all been brilliant. Everything was good; they all ran to time and care was great. Couldn't wish for anything better. My wife has also had a stay in hospital after a fall. The aftercare for her was excellent with nurses and physios visiiting

My Wife and I have both had procedures done in the 12 months and our treatment, appointments, Waiting times etc can not be faulted. During my stay I felt there was not enough staff to cope with all the tasks which were rqd. never the less I was well looked after My Surgeon and his staff were all very kind and caring My wife has just had a cataract op and another pending Again excellent care from all concerned The only problem with the eye dept. is the waiting but we accept it is a busy dept.Thank you Ipswich Hospital for the care you have shown us

General Surgery
December 16, 2016
I was seen in A&E within 20 minutes and following tests was admitted to a ward within 90 minutes.
I was visited by a Consultant at 9am the next morning, had a CT Scan by 10.30 am and received my diagnosis later that day. I was given a treatment plan and approximate date for surgery (3 weeks) prior to being discharged. My symptoms got much worse over the weekend and following a call to my Consultant was admitted and had the surgery the following day. From diagnosis to curative treatment took 7 days. I doubt I would get that Service if I was a Private patient
