Wonderful staff

Stroke services
November 17, 2016
My son aged 54 was in the stroke unit. He was in a vegetative state after an operation on a blood clot. The staff were wonderful and so caring

Good service at A&E children's dept.

Accident and emergency services
November 16, 2016
We took my son in at 9 pm after he suffered a football injury at school. A&E was very busy. As he was 13 years old they allowed us to go into the children's section where we only waited half an hour. There were no broken bones just muscle damage. He was told to take pain killers and not to do sport for a couple of weeks. The staff were good.

Poor appointment service

Ear Nose and Throat
November 10, 2016
ENT appointments. I have asked every time for an appointment in the mornings only. I am not fussy as to day. My husband is over 70 years od and I rely on him for transport. However he does not like to drive at night or during the rush hour.traffic. My last appointment shich I could not attend was for 3 pm. 10 November. By the time I get seen to it is dark at this time of the year and the rush hour is in full swing. I explained this to the appointments and was told I now have to wait 6 weeks before I get seen to again

Ophthalmology
November 10, 2016
The whole experience was done efficiently with friendlliness from the time we entered Ipswich Hospital to the time we left. My appointment was 2.15 pm. and I was called at that time. Everything went smoothly with nurses explaining each stage before I had laser in my right eye.
All done in a few minutes and back to car park feeling stressfree and eye was very comfortable. I feel very confident in recommending the eye clinic to anyone with eye problems

Fair but communications poor

Gynaecology
November 1, 2016
The care on the ward I'm on now has been good and staff have been very attentive.
During the investigation stage of my cancer I missed CT scans due to letters not arriving and I didn't get the text reminder either. This then delayed my operation and the knock on effect on the NHS of this one missed appointment was very costly (in monetary terms). Communication of information is not great. I've been asked many times what I'm allergic to when it should be on my notes

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry for the inconvenience of letters not arriving on time and therefore missing appointments, I will pass your comments on to the relevant team. It is great to hear that the staff and the ward you are currently on is good. If you would like to discuss your care further or raise a formal complaint please give me a call on 01473 702101

Good but some issues need addressing

Gynaecology

The toilets have been a bit hit and miss. The higher seat has been removed and I found it difficul without it. Needham and Martlesham wards have been marvellous. I was moved here at 21.00 on Sunday when I was half asleep which wasn't great but I understood why. Bed creaks and is not the most comfy compared to the electric one. Lights out is later on this ward compared to the other wards.
Getting a care package sorted is delaying my discharge and the lack of communication is confusing and causes uncertainty. Lots of space on the ward and staff are very friendly

Many thanks for your comments on the service you experienced at Ipswich Hospital. We work hard to ensure that discharges are suitable for all parties concerned and sometimes this can lead to unforeseen delays. Apologies if you were not made aware of this. I am sure that the ward staff would have found anther toilet seat, and I am sorry about the noisy bed. It is great to hear that the staff have been friendly, approachable and helpful during your stay. Many thanks, Steve Bruce - Patient Experience Team
