Oncology has been great

Cancer services
August 3, 2022
I've been very happy with the care provided. I attend once every three weeks for treatment and the staff have always been excellent. Parking is free once your car is registered and the nurses provide excellent care and support.

Told about the 'play team'

Pediatrics/children services
August 2, 2022
We are waiting for an appointment for heart scan (follow up after murmur picked up and later checked at GP's, so they referred us). I was told by GP that if I hear nothing after 2 weeks to chase it. I did this with the surgery, who said it had been done. I had a call from the Paediatric team who left a message, so called the number left that put me straight to the medical secretary. She was able to advise me that referrals are more than 10 weeks. I asked if there is any understanding around a child with Autism having something like this. She told me that there was nothing stating it on the record, and so it was good I had flagged this to her, she then said she would get in touch with the 'play team' and they would call me to help in advance of the appointment once we get it. They rang me within 20 minutes. I did not even know about this team as we were in the paediatrics ward on an off for 2 weeks and they knew our child is ASD, yet at no point did any team come and help with such things as the Canulla being put in. I am impressed that a secretary flagged this to me and sorted contact with them really quickly. It is also concerning that this is not consistent.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments, I have passed these onto the relevant teams for their attention. I am sorry that you were not informed of the "play team" in your previous visits and how this could have improved the experience for your son and yourself. We are always looking for ways to improve the service and your feedback has helped with this, thank you

Had accident in which I dislocated my finger

Accident and emergency services
July 29, 2022
I dislocated my little finger and broke another finger on the same hand. I went to my GP nurse who referred me to AE in Ipswich. I reported in at 6pm on a Monday evening. I was immediately triaged and sent for an Xray, i was then seen by a nurse, the injury explained and my little finger re-locacted. I was referred for physio the next day and it was explained to me how to take care of my finger. The physio department the next day were helpful and professional. So thank you all concerned.

Very good treatment

Stroke services
July 26, 2022
I was rushed in to hospital by family after seeing my GP and them suspecting I'd had a TIA. I was give two scans quickly and the care while I was in hospital was excellent. The only issue has been since I've come home I've not had any feedback about the scans or advice about actions going forward. So I'm not sure what I should be doing.

Not told about free parking

ICU
July 26, 2022
Our grandchild was in ICU and it wasn't until another family mentioned to my son that families can get free parking when a child is in ICU. Not a single member of staff had spoken to them about this even though they had been there for days. They asked if they could get a refund but have been told it's not possible.

Rude, unprofessional doctor in A &E

Accident and emergency services
July 26, 2022
Most staff v pleasant and helpful but the main doctor's attitude was upsetting. We had been advised to attend by NHS 111 helpline as a matter of urgency because my partner had suspected Diabetic Ketoacidosis. Before he had seen all the test results, one doctor told my partner his symptoms were too vague and this was not a matter for the emergency department. His tone was rude and abrupt, and he said we should not have come. When told that we had been advised to, he said '111 staff are not trained', and this was a matter for the GP.
Yes, the tests ended up negative, but the whole point was that we were worried and needed the tests to confirm one way or the other - as we had been advised. It is stressful enough feeling very ill and worried, without being made to feel like a time-waster. Also very confusing to be told such different things by two professionals.
It is not our fault that there is no 'middle' service suitable for medical conditions that are too urgent for a GP but turn out not to be life-threatening.

Excellent day surgery

General Surgery
July 26, 2022
In December '21 I went in for day surgery which went very well. I was tested for covid a couple of times before the surgery including on the day. The care and staff were great and the operation has worked well although not quite as good as I'd hoped.

General anaesthetic - was terrified..

Raedwald Day Surgery Unit
July 26, 2022
After a terrible private dentist botch job, I had to have general anaesthetic to have have the wisdom tooth fully removed properly from my jaw. I had only had one operation in my life, when i was 6 (50 yrs ago) and had been violently abused while staying there, leaving me with PTSD and hospital phobia. So this was far from 'just a tooth removal.' The team were so professional, thoughful, and reassuring, without being condescending. Everything was explained and each step of the way i was made to feel valued. The procedure went brilliantly - no broken jaw like at the dentists , no open sinus, no infection, no panic. I came out feeling so elated that this positive experience has made me change my terrified thoughts about hospital. I cant remember the team but i was in monday morning 11am 25th july 2022. I would so like them to be commended.

Felt powerless and without information

Fracture Clinic
July 12, 2022
Directions from A&E to fracture clinic not easy. No receptionist at fracture clinic. Overworked nurse grumpily told me to put my paperwork in an intray. No idea how the queuing /triage worked. No idea how long wait might be (except long) no information, no human kindness, no interest , no asking if I needed painkillers. No idea where toilet was and nobody to tell I’d gone to toilet in case my name is called while I’m away. Actual medical treatment was fine.

Felt rushed

Dermatology
June 24, 2022
I felt rushed and was given a leaflet about warts and told not to go and bother getting them burnt off privately (NHS don't do it anymore was what was said) because we would just be wasting our money.
