Good maternity staff
Maternity
January 23, 2023
There were good staff especially the newly qualified staff. Throughout my labour I did feel things weren't explained brilliantly. There were a lot of people in the room but no one would explain why they were all there.
Rude reception staff and a ward without care
Oncology
January 16, 2023
Experience as a carer for an Oncology patient. Rude day patient reception staff. On the ward a rude and ill-informed Doctor. No covid tests. Little access to food, the person lost weight and was there to build up. Self discharged with support of dietician and specialist nurse.
My visit to Ipswich Hospital
Cancer services
January 13, 2023
I attended at A and E thinking I had a stroke. I was seen by the Dr and Nurse. They were very efficient and remained looking after me long after their shift ended. I was next seen 2 others, again they were kind, explaining everything and what treatment would follow. There followed at CT scan and a MRI scan and subsequently being seen by another person. I don't know all the names of the Nurses and staff. But without exception they were so professional, kind and understanding, dedicated.
I would delighted if you can pass my appreciation to all that was done for me. You should be proud of them and they are a credit to the hospital

Excellent level of care
Gynaecology
December 28, 2022
My mother had an appointment with Stour Ward Gynaecology at Ipswich Hospital today.
My mother is 82 and she was nervous about attending. Two staff members provided my mother with an excellent level of care. They explained everything, they didn't rush my mother, they were both friendly, professional and reassuring.

Unable to have epidural
Maternity
December 23, 2022
When I went in to have my baby I was unable to have an epidural as there was no anaesthetist available to do it. The labour ward was very good, very supportive and caring but when I moved to the ward after having my baby it wasn't so good. I had to change my own bedding as they didn't repsond to the call bell and in the end I just did it with help from my husband. The breastfeeding support however, was good and they gave good advice about co sleeping. Staff individually were very good but getting someone to repsond to the call bell was very difficult. One member of staff did say to me "I do have lots of other things to do" which I completely understand but I needed help too.
10 month wait
Accident and emergency services
December 14, 2022
My daughter has had a 10 month referral wait even though we were told it was urgent. On our first visit to A&E they just sent us home with ibuprofen and then after attending again they reluctantly gave a chest xray which showed the real issue and explained why she was in so much pain. She was then put on medication while we are waiting to be seen by a consultant.
Felt very alone
December 12, 2022
After my baby's birth, my partner wasn't allowed to stay overnight, even though I had been awake for 63 hours. I was falling asleep holding my baby and all staff did was tell me off but did not offer any help at all. I had one midwife for the birth, but during the induction I saw multiple people, but the actual birth with them was good. I felt very alone when I was moved to the postnatal ward, very isolated and glad to go home.
Brilliant care in children’s A & E
Accident and emergency services

Brought my daughter up this evening after 2 failed visits to out of hours GP. Saw her very quickly, were lovely, friendly. They diagnosed quickly and provided medication that was needed!! Thank you guys, keep up the good work.
Care has been very good
Paediatrics/children services
December 9, 2022
Care for our child who has had multiple issues since birth has been very good. We were referred to physio in March but still haven't heard anything 8 months later, it would help to just have an email to confirm what the situation is rather than being left waiting with no information.
Childrens LD liaison nurse needed
Paediatrics/children services
December 9, 2022
The paediatric assessment unit have a good understanding of children with additional needs but the paediatric A&E doesn't have anything sensory for children to play with. It would be great if a childrens LD liaison nurse could be available like at the Norfolk & Norwich hospital, they have been invaluable when we've stayed there and would be a great addition at Ipswich Hospital.
