Cancer support great

Cancer services

I visit the hospital regularly as I'm having cancer treatment and the support from staff has been amazing, they make a difficult time as easy as it can be.

Get good reminders

June 19, 2023
The reminders about appointments are great and I do feel relatively well supported and can always contact the department if I'm concerned about anything. Things do feel slow at times but thats the process and you just have to be patient but other than that its all good. Parking is expensive.

Hit and miss

Maternity
June 19, 2023
I had a complex pregnancy and people weren't reading my notes so I had to explain multiple times that I wasn't now having a multiple birth which was incredibly hard. There were some bizare covid mask rules at times in intensive care after I'd had my baby, with dad not having to wear a mask but I did and then on the maternity ward it was optional.

Not been great

Rheumatology
June 19, 2023
A relative has a number of things going on and the relationship with departments has deteriorated. It is very evident that staff are under a lot of stress. Annual reviews haven't been completed, the rheumotolgy helpline is switched off mid morning and often can't contact someone for help and end up having to contact GP to see if they can do anything. The empathy has gone and it is difficult to get advice, just feel fobbed off.

Good

Rheumatology
June 19, 2023
I used to have rheumatology appointments at my surgery which was great as much easier than getting all the way to the hospital for short appointments. On the whole the phone consultations have been sufficient too.

Not listened to

Gynaecology
June 12, 2023
Although the referral didn't take too long I didn't feel well listened to by gynaecology staff and they seemed reluctant to actually do anything so it all took longer than it needed to. When they did finally do some tests and got the results they wanted to operate quickly.

Good care

Accident and emergency services
June 2, 2023
When my wife had a fall recently we went to A&E and the care and overall experience at the hospital was good. She had fractured her hip and ended up having an operation which went very well. The only thing that was difficult was that before anything really was done they wanted a discussion about completing the DNR forms, although done sensitively was a bit shocking when all you want them to do is fix the problem and stop the pain. It did however force us to consider the options which we had never thought of. .

Very happy with care

Accident and emergency services
June 2, 2023
Following a minor stroke I stayed in hospital, overnight in the end, but the care provided by A&E and the assessments carried out were great. The only issue was that the consultant left a letter for me but we couldn't decipher the hand writing so were unclear what was said.

Cardiology - Claydon Ward - First Class

Cardiology
May 29, 2023
I’ve just completed a stay on this ward (A2) and can only say that the professionalism, kindness and assistance I received, was nothing short of first class. Every single member of staff of whatever discipline showed me all these qualities and more, putting a very nervous patient at ease in every respect. From the consultants, to the nursing, catering and cleaning staff I would like to thank them all. Too many to name individually, as they were all over and above in my opinion. You have a truly superb team. Many thanks from a very grateful patient.

Excellent care

Critical Care
May 25, 2023
I received excellent care, looking after my family, even giving them tea and toast. I was however moved a number of times throughout the hospital after I came out of the critical stage. At one point I was on the maternity ward! I however cannot fault the care I received.
