Very quick

Eye Clinic
May 25, 2023
I had both my eyes done (cataracts) within a month of each other, and I thought how wonderfully quick that was.

Very good care received from all during a colonoscopy. It's not a pleasant procedure, so I was happy to be looked after well and care shown to me.

My 'Angels'

Oncology
May 25, 2023
Absolutely amazing treatment - 'My Angels' is what I call them. I have been going for chemotherapy, which is very hard going on my own. They are so caring and personable to me. On one occasion they noticed that I had gone in with a hurt hip (something I did at home, I hurt it). The pain was still with me the following week, and they noticed again, so they got a Doctor to come and see me whilst in this department. It was recommended that I went and got an X-Ray and so one of the staff wheeled me down to X-Ray, staying with me. I turned out, I had broken my hip! Surgery followed not long after. If it was not for their attentiveness, I am not sure how long I would have gone in pain, not realising what I had done.

Spoken to awfully

Haematology
May 25, 2023
I was in hospital after being 'blue-lighted' in for the 3rd time in a month. Whilst in the hospital I was moved onto various wards 5 times and my wife found keeping track of me, very difficult during my 10 days there. During this time, I had a pre-booked appointment in Haematology and my wife was meeting me in the department for the appointment. The ward I was on informed me that I had got covid, but they said there was not any problem with me still going to the appointment that day, which I found surprising. They wheeled me to Haematology where they must have also informed them I had Covid. I sat in the open waiting area, no mask given to me, or even suggested I wear one. I was called in, but then was yelled at 'you've got Covid, what you doing here? We now have got to fumigate this place now all coz of you!' What an attitude. It was not my fault, I was there because I was told it was fine to go, even though I questioned it.

No follow up

unknown
May 25, 2023
After being referred to have a growth removed, the clinic I attended in the community, said it is too big for them to remove it. It is affecting my life and I have heard nothing about it. I rang PALS at the hospital, left a message and still heard nothing from them. I will try them again as I need to know what is happening.
It is frustrating as when I first went there, they said it was too small to worry about and then it now is too big. No one tells you what size something has to be to get treatment, and even then how will you know when to try access the service because you then go on a waiting list too, whilst the thing is still growing! Just no follow-up communication leaving me fed up, mentally already unwell and this has meant I now hate going out as I am so self conscious of it.

Confusing information

Eye department
May 19, 2023
It was confusing to receive a letter from what seemed to be a private company about an Eye operation, then a couple of days later getting the same information but from the hospital. The initial referral was from Specsavers sending a report about me needing a cataract needing to be done. I was left with the impression when I got the first letter that I was needing to pay for it, which I was initially confused by as I had my last one done a couple of years ago on the NHS. I assume they are helping clear the backlog. From referral to the appointment I have in June, this is very quick, so I am impressed with that part.

Told urgent, but still waiting

Orthopaedics

In December I was told my hip operation was urgent, but I am still waiting. Now been told it will be one to two years! That does not sound urgent. Meanwhile, my ability to do things is decreasing.

Poor

Accident and emergency services
May 10, 2023
I arrived as walking to A&E after being involved in an road traffic collision earlier on the 10th May around 2pm.
I was triaged and was told it was a two hour wait. By 6:30 PM still no call and no one had informed the waiting time had changed. Nor was there any information being displayed in the waiting area to say so. My pain in my right side had slightly subsided so I left to get some paracetamol and see how I went in the evening.
This is not the service I expect from Ipswich hospital. Communication to patients is key and you let me down.
I did get a call form a doctor who said if pain got worse to come back.

Did not know I could get aid on NHS

Audiology
May 4, 2023
Years ago, I did not know that you could get hearing aids on the NHS. I went for a private test and ended up buying aids through them. Now though I have managed to get some through NHS. My issues are that the tubes are the same length but one side needs to be longer. Being profoundly deaf means sending it away would be a problem so they have kindly allowed me to come and see them so I do not have to go without the aid.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and how you are now able to get your hearing aids fitted properly and sourcing them by coming to the hospital. I have forwarded your comments onto the Matron to share with her wider team and I hope that this has improved your overall experience.
