Frustrating

January 27, 2021
Unable to simply book a time slot/appointment for cervical screening. Would put many people off in bothering. Will have to call but know that it will be greated with "why didn't you use the app and online service?!"

I am very sorry to hear that you had difficulty in booking your smear appointment, please can you provide me with more information, so that I can look into that for you.
We have plenty of availability Tuesday - Saturday. Did you try to call us or make the appointment through our Askmygp service? We would welcome a conversation to understand what had happened in this instance

Lack of Patient Consideration

January 18, 2021
This practice lists 23 GPs most of whom are only available 2 days a week or less. I wonder if any of them or the management of the practice have noticed that the Vets practice at the bottom of the road (which they must pass) has erected a temporary shelter for pets and owners whilst waitng outside. For the last year sick patients waiting for prescriptions, appointments or blood tests have had to wait exposed to all weathers outside the front door. Is the lack of "provider response" (good and bad) in this site feedback indicative of the care offered ??

Please be assured that many attempts have been made, (and continue to be made) to improve patient access to the building. Unfortunately Stowhealth do not own Violet Hill House, we along with several other users are tenants to the property. Because of this, we are very restricted as to what we can do to the exterior of the building.

We have looked at many temporary shelters, but as we cannot fix anything to the building, we are unable to make them safe – which is a health and safety problem, especially in the adverse weather conditions we have experienced of late. There is also the difficulty of providing a big enough structure to allow for social distancing coupled with the issues of having to remove it every night and erect it again every morning.

We are lucky that the building does have an overhang which gives some shelter at the front of the building for patients to wait for their prescriptions. Extra staff have been employed to try to speed up the process of bringing medication out to patients, to help cut down on waiting times. There is also a free prescription delivery service that we now run for many of our dispensing patients (conditions apply) to avoid them having to visit us and waiting.

In addition, we have also arranged allocated car parking directly in front of the Blood Test clinics, so patients can easily wait in their cars until called.

This past year has been an incredible challenge for all building users within Violet Hill House, but we are proud that we have managed to continue to provide a safe place for patients to come to throughout this pandemic.

We certainly look forward to a time when waiting outside will not be required, but for the time being our main priority is to keep patients and staff safe – and Covid out. One positive case could easily lead to our whole surgery down being closed down.

Finally, may we also point out that Stowhealth currently have 6 GP Partners and 6 Salaried GP’s at Stowhealth, with one more joining us very soon.

Efficient, caring and easy to access

I have never had to wait for an appointment and the flu clinics are so well thought out, even during Covid, very impressed.
I do find that the new AskmyGP system is confusing to use but it has resulted in at least a phone call.

Generally very poor

December 31, 2020
Before Covid it was difficult to get a face to face appointment with a doctor. AskmyGP is not very good and receptionist giving health advice....not sure that is appropriate. This surgery has got gradually worse and lazy over the years.
Obviously, too many patients on your books and less time for good old fashioned face to face personable doctoring.

Thank you for comments and we are sorry that you have been dissatisfied with the service.
AskmyGP is a relatively new service that we offer which was designed to help improve patient access and to enable the team to deal with most queries on the same day. The overall response to this service has been very positive.

We understand that some people may not have access to the internet, so our telephone lines are still very much open for patients to call. Our reception team, who are trained Care Navigators, will ask patients for a brief description for the reason of their call, to ensure they are directed to most appropriate clinician. This also enables the clinician to prioritise their calls.

During the past year, more consultations have been via telephone, email or video where possible, rather than face to face, for patient safety. Please be assured that if a patient needs to be seen that arrangements will be made for them to come into the practice.

We are all looking forward to the time that we can welcome more patients back into the surgery.

The new ask my GP service is hard work

December 14, 2020
Ask my GP services is difficult kept putting back to the start when I tried to do a photo so had to type it all again for the same thing to happen. Cant get a face to face appointment, it all feels cold and detached.

Very efficient flu vaccination clinic today.

I came to the 50-65’s flu vaccination clinic today. Extremely efficient and well organised. Good organisation making it feel very safe and covid secure. Despite a queue on arrival, I was done and leaving the car park within 10 minutes of arrival. Well done team!

No response to messages

November 27, 2020
Used my GP service to get a face to face appointment. They said the GP I requested was not on until Monday and would I like her to call then. I sent a message back to say any GP would be fine as wanted help today. No reply. I then sent a further message to see if my request had been updated still no reply. Sent a 3rd to ask if anybody was going to call me today no reply.

General Healthcare

I have been a patient at Stowhealth since 2010, my experience has been about many different aspects of physical and mental health care. My doctor was recommended by my previous GP when I was telling them that I was going to be moving from their practices boundaries.

I can honestly say that it has been easier to have contact with my GP since they started the telephone triage system, I also find the new option of conversing via messages since Stowhealth changed over to the Ask my GP system, the only way I feel it could be improved would be to be able to send a request over the weekend ready to be picked up on a Monday morning.
