Unheard and dismissed

A&E and then F7
March 30, 2016
My husband was admitted via A&E with a chest infection. The consultant he saw on F7 was extremely unprofessional and unhelpful with their comments about his previous diagnoses. He recalls this consultant saying 'Don't be silly, Lyme Disease causes you to have tics and heart problems and we will beg to differ'. The diagnosis of Lyme Disease happened for my husband in 2002 in the USA and has been ignored numerous times by numerous NHS doctors. But these comments are extraordinarily unhelpful to my husband's wellbeing. He felt unheard and dismissed which lets the NHS down. It also creates more patients for my service - Suffolk Wellbeing.

turned away twice.

Accident and emergency services

I brought my 1 year old grandson to A&E twice as he couldn't use his arm properly. Both times I was turned away without an X ray and told the problem was muscle development. The consultant diagnosed over the phone to the clinician in A&E. I took him to our Dr who insisted that an X ray was necessary and when this was carried out it became clear he had a broken arm.

Accused of abusing alcohol!

I have acute pancreatitis and the clinicians assumed that I drink heavily-which I don't. I wasn't given much in the way of information, a poor attitude was shown to me and I didn't feel listened to.

The staff are friendly and helpful. Everywhere is nice and clean and I got a good explanation of what was going to happen.

Good, over the years

Various clinics

Over the years, as a carer, I have been to the hospital numerous times. Generally the staff are very, very friendly and helpful. Some of the consultants can be overly aloof.

Over and above

I was sent to WSH by my doctor as I had been coughing for some weeks. The X Ray dept was really good with me and when I mentioned that my husband (who was with me) would be coming back for his X Ray soon as he had been hospitalised with a chest problem 4-5 weeks previously. They found his details on their list and did his there and then! Service well above and beyond. Thank you.
