No problems at all!

Accident and emergency services

At about 10.00pm during the week my hand swelled up and became extremely painful. I called 111 but they weren't able to help in a short time frame so I went to A&E at West Suffolk Hospital. I saw (in turn) a staff nurse, nurse and doctor. There was no delay and they were all very professional. The unit was busy but I had a X ray. I was in and out in about 2.0 to 2.5 hours which I considered to be very good.

Nursing staff and doctors great

Gastrointestinal and Liver services

I recently had investigative procedures carried out and the nursing staff and doctors were great. I originally had a 9am appointment but this was put back to 12.00. I was seen as a day patient and staff ensured that I was comfortable and understood what was happening at all times.

Mum was taken to hospital with a chest infection and she was treated very well by staff. She has dementia but everything was explained to us as a family and she was discharged during the day on Sunday. All the medication was arranged and went home with her.

Really great staff, blood tests, ECG and chest x ray completed quickly. Staff couldn't have been more helpful with everything done in 4 hours.

Excellent care and help for my condition ie mesothelioma - cancer of the right lung at the hospital (respiratory medicine) and the district nurses clinic at Stow Lodge. Nothing could be improved. Excellent help, support and treatment at a very worrying time.

No treatment/support.

April 8, 2016
Regarding the SALT Team: there is no treatment/support for aphasic older people.
We tried to refer a new admission who has dementia and aphasia to the SALT Team. We were told that they aren't accepting referrals for communication difficulties in older people. They are only assessing swallowing & choking risk. This service used to be available in Suffolk.
The resident in question cannot write and becomes frustrated when she is not understood. We have cobbled together some communication aids bout could use some support.
