Good treatment but wanted more aftercare
MacMillan unit
May 16, 2024
I had breast cancer and I have to say that I had first class treatment I was seen within two weeks and had my operation and then was discharged, 2 years later I was told that I wasnt needed to come back any longer, I feel that I have cut off abruptly without the aftercare that I wanted.

I usually have no complaints about WSH however my appointment today was far from satisfactory.
The nurse that took my weight etc…& called me in was amazing! Friendly chatty & made me feel at ease. However, once in the consultation room the consultant was blunt & not particularly friendly. He was not interested in anything I had to say about all the symptoms I was experiencing. He had not read any of my notes to have up to date knowledge of previous treatments & scan results. He then had the audacity to tell me that my appointment was “ a bit of a waste of time” I had to hold back tears when I told him I’d had enough of living this way. He also told me that fibroids do not cause bleeding or pain ( what the hell does he know - he’s male) it’s my body.
I have been referred for a procedure which he didn’t even realise I’d already had before and that the growth has regrown!! I hope that he doesn’t do the procedure!! He implied that because of my age my issues will sort themselves out in menopause. I’m only just 50.
All this was in front of a junior doctor! Not a great example of great practice.
Want a second opinion & a female consultant who may understand my feelings better & treat me as a person .

Brilliant hospital
Stroke services

The best hospital I've ever been to, not too big and they really seem to care. The care they provide is great, they saved my husbands life and I was well supported and given all the information I needed. The check ups and rehab service have been brilliant and when he was being discharged the whole process was done very well, making sure that everything was ready at home before he left hospital.
Good

It's been 6 weeks since my last appointment and I'm seeing the same consultant again which is good. They go through everything well, explaining every step. Overall its a pretty good hospital, I've found it good and the staff helpful.
Transport to hospital is difficult
May 7, 2024
I have no issues getting the appointments through but transport to the hospital is difficult and as a carer of someone with dementia it's difficult to attend appointments with them as there is so much waiting around at times. My husband is currently in Colchester hospital following a fall but I can't visit as I'm not able to drive, if he was here it would be much easier.
Long wait in A&E
Accident and emergency services
May 7, 2024
Went to A&E at 5pm and although I needed to be admitted there wasn't a bed available until 10.30am the next day which was a very hard wait. The staff were lovely and did listen to me about my condition and the different issues, its just waiting for a bed that's hard but they can't do much about that if they are that busy. The toilets really weren't that good and needed some attention to tidy them up.
Quick referral

I had a fairly quick referral to the respiratory department and the staff here have been very friendly and have offered good support and care.
Not enough disabled parking
Respiratory Medicine

I have regular appointments and get the appointments when they should be and I feel that it works well and the staff provide good support. The only issue is that there is not enough disabled parking and that is a problem.
Telephone consultations
April 26, 2024
My next appointment will be a telephone consultation which I don't feel is as appropriate and it would be better if I could have my husband attend with me so I don't forget to ask all the questions that I need answers to.
