An ambulance was called when I collapsed at home and I was taken in to the hospital. In the first week I of my stay I didn't really know what was happening but I had a pace maker fitted. After two weeks in hospital I was ready to go home and I feel I was discharged well with equipment in place for me to go home. My family were kept well informed throughout my time as a patient and the consultant spent time explaining everything.

Really liked receiving a booklet about my stay in hospital when I was unconscious. It was almost a diary of what happened and helped to fill in gaps when I woke up. I've have absolutely no complaints and the care of my son has also been amazing.

Lack of communication

March 24, 2025
Although care I've had during a number of stays in the hospital has been good there has been a lack of communication when being discharged. One minute I was having a procedure the next minute being sent home on tablets and it's not clear how the decision has been reached.

Very pleased with the information provided and I liked having the phone call to discuss and run through what was needed. The letter was very detailed but I did find it difficult to drink everything that was needed, it was very intense. The staff have been lovely throughout.

A great phone call with a member of the team to go through everything that I needed to know along with an email and paper information which was all sent. I was a little confused whether I was an am or pm patient and that changed what I should do when. Having instant feedback after the procedure was reassuring, if I'd had to wait for results it would've been so much worse.

Given good information

Endoscopy

I had a quick referral from my surgery and I had enough time to digest the information in the email that I was sent about what to do to prepare for the procedure. I was able to have contact with the team to ask questions which was good and the staff all through the appointment have been great. The only thing that could be added to the information that was sent are possibly some menu suggestions to make it easier to know what to make from the individual ingredients you are allowed to eat. Parking is difficult and can take time to find a spot.

The referral process has been good and the staff were friendly and efficient. The reception staff were informative and helpful. I did find in the appointment that the layout of the room made hearing the consultant difficult. It was also only when I got home that I realised I hadn't asked the questions about what to do going forward regarding exercise etc.

I was happy with the information I was sent prior to my endoscopy appointment. The staff have all been good and after the referral by my GP I was seen quickly, within 2 weeks. I've got nothing but praise for the staff.

More complicated

You now have to register your blue badge each time you visit the hospital which means walking in to the PALS office to show them the badge, which when you have mobility issues is a lot of back and forth. Also the help point for any parking issues has now been moved away from the pay machines which has made it more difficult too. To me it makes no sense why they've moved it away from the machines and further away.
