I had a kidney stone and received excellent service but after this I had really awfuI back spasms. I went to the A & E department after 111 Dr spoke to them requesting surgical review (I had a kidney stone removed and in a great deal of pain, did not know if it was related. My mobility was affected because the pain was so bad in my back.
Always looked after my husband very well

My husband has had lots of health issues and everyone at west Suffolk have been amazing
Good but appointments infrequent.
Gynaecology

There's a long wait for the initial appointment. Not a lot of time within the apt to discuss options and a feeling you're on a treadmill. Fittings of pessaries can be difficult, if it doesn't work it can be a long wait for the next try.
First class care
Endoscopy

Attended Endoscopy clinic today.
From the reception to the discharge, everyone was kind, lovely, and friendly.
What a surprise to find the CEO was doing the procedure!
It's good know that management aren't just 'managing' and are medically trained and hands on.

Peri Natal Mental Health Team are amazing
Maternity

I have a child under 1 year and I cannot speak more highly about the Peri Natal Mental Health Team which I think are based in Bury St Edmunds they visit me on a regular basis in my home in Ipswich. I have a multi professional support from the team given to me such as a Counsellor, Peri natal Nurse, Peri natal Support worker, Baby massager, a Doctor is also available on the team. I understand that they all work together and I feel very safe and supported, I have had them for 4-5 months so far. "I'm confident to be a good mum and to get out, with this team around me" "I couldn't recommend them to anyone any higher they are amazing"
Concerned about the lack of empathy shown
Ward F10
February 18, 2025
I have been supporting my mum during a extended stay.
She has accessed 4 wards including the acute assessment unit where she spent 2 days on a trolley in a bay. For a 78 year old lady with complex neurological issues this was I felt unsafe.
She has been moved 3 x since and has been very distressed each time. Some of the staff supporting her have been very caring and supportive however she has also been left for long periods without interaction.
She has been padded in a incontinence pad when when she was not incontinent previously.
There is no contact with the outside world on the ward they are left with no mental stimulation either through media or contact.it is a sad reflection on the NHS that is now being offered.

She had fallen down 9 stone steps in our house & cut her head with much blood. Checked in 14.50 staff clearly busy but treated ok. After waiting 1.5 hrs, in accordance with instructions on the video screen, mentioned this to a member of staff. She was not aware of the advice on video screen! Told will be seen soon. Asked second member of staff if we had been called & not heard our name - she said "Not that I heard." Waited another hour & repeated process. Eventually found out we had been called at 15.10 but had not responded. Saw triage nurse 10 mins later. She said she had repeated our name a number of times but we had been lisening hard & could not see how we had not heard our name. Told that there were 90 people waiting.
Total change - in a short time saw a Dr which was like going from bedlam to sanity. She was empathetic, unrushed but thorough; completely professional & attended to my wife tenderly & with humour.
Suggestion: We appreciate that A & E is under pressure & that the waiting area is far from ideal. However the real irritants we experienced were all avoidable. Suggest you form a small problem solving group (7 max) of A & E front line team members & patients who have experienced long delays to come up with ideas for improving the service to patients & put these forward to Management. For example, It would not be difficult to improve the system for calling the next patient - the curent one has no structure or cohesion with members of staff all doing it their own way with widely varying quality.

Diagnosed with Bowel cancer at 39 years old. From diagnosis to delivery of treatment for surgery was a matter of weeks. Support from all teams involved were superb!
