Mixed

A little mixed at times as it can be a bit of a wait at times but care has been good.
Very good staff

I had a long stay on G10 and the staff were very good especially the Filipino staff who were always busy. I was kept well informed throughout and the food was actually ok with some things like the mushroom soup and porridge being lovely. I had my own tablet so could access what I needed and didn't need a TV. The only problem was that the heating had broken and it was freezing on the ward for the first 10 nights. Staff provided extra blankets but it was very cold still.

Can't fault the care but I am waiting for an operation but other than that they have been very good.
Discharge been difficult

Getting our family member discharged from hospital has been difficult. They have dementia and before they could be discharged they had to show they could go up and down a couple of steps but this was too much for them and they wouldn't do it so they couldn't be discharged although mobility is not a problem for them. Being able to get staff to recognise that it was the dementia causing the issue and not that there was a safety issue was not easy as not all staff are aware how dementia can affect people.
No acknowledgement for my concerns

Hello, I have recently been referred to the cardiologist team from my doctor's surgery after it was discovered I have a bad heart murmur. I was told it was a serious situation and that there's a likelihood I'll be having a lot of tests done before possibly having open heart surgery.
I was given an appointment to see another Dr within 2 weeks of seeing my doctor. My appointment was at 9:40, I didn't get seen until 10:30am. Although apologies we're given I felt like from the moment of walking into his office he didn't want to acknowledge the possibility of me having heart problems. The reason for me feeling like this is that I mentioned noticing my heart rate dropping on a regular basis, and I'd get horrendous heart palpitations whenever my HR would go above 100 on what I could see on my smart watch, he said I had "smart watch syndrome" yet when discussing the results from a previous 24hr ECG tape it confirmed how accurate my watch is. He also stated that although I had blacked out with no pre-warnings, due to having fainting episodes over 15yrs ago I could simply be a "fainter" when discussing doing a nurse degree he told me "being a nurse isn't the best career for a fainter". When describing how little energy I have on a daily basis, alongside bad heart palpitations & sharp chest pains he questioned every single symptom I described to make me justify what I was saying. I felt like I'd gone from a doctor at my local surgery taking this situation incredibly serious to being referred to someone who due to not fitting in the box of people that typically have heart problems he was very blasé about it all. He confirmed I did have a heart murmur but got told "it's probably just a valve leaking, I wouldn't be too concerned about it". My husband attended the appointment with me and even he was disgusted with how the consultant spoke to me, he highlighted that heart problems was a family issue from my dad suffering a massive one at 47 to which he didn't survive, and then furthermore more my grandparents & their grandparents but even this wasn't something he seemed at all concerned about.

I had an elective c section. I was really scared and quite emotional but the all the staff were amazing, explained every step of the way and even though I asked 1000 questions, i never felt like i was a bother. The midwives especially deserve so much recognition, every single one that looked after me was so nice and made me comfortable. It made my whole experience much better and they all made me feel at ease. 1000/10 rating :). I don’t normally leave feedback for anywhere but it’s the least i could do. Thanks everyone.x
Received first class professionalism and care
Accident and emergency services

A&E staff were professional, proficient, caring and patient during an intensely busy 12hour period. During our time there we saw continued commitment, from every member of staff, to handle every case equally and fairly and in as prompt a manner as was possible in such difficult circumstances. What was very evident was the team effort being made by all.
Dental treatment needed
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

My dentist referred me to the hospital as work needs to be done before they can continue with the work that needs to be done. When my dentist checked what was happening it turned out that I'd been taken off the list so I'm still waiting. The delay is causing problems but there's nothing my dentist can do until I've been in to hospital.
Getting to operation difficult

I need to have ankle surgery but I've been told that it is likely to be done down at the new Colchester centre which won't be great for me due to the distance and difficulty getting there.

After receiving a bite from a dog I went A&E and was told I would need a tetanus vaccination which they then gave me before sending me home. All staff were lovely but it was only when I saw my practice nurse that they told me I needed a follow up injection which I wasn't advised of by the hospital.
