problems with hearing aid

Hearing aid services
April 20, 2018
We didn't think the hearing aid was working so made an appointment to be seen but when they tested it, it seemed to be working. When we got home it wasn't working again so we are now going to go to the hearing advice service, which is local, to see if they can do anything with it otherwise we'll have to go back to the hospital.

Medically on the ball

April 20, 2018
One of the best hospitals around. Medically they are on the ball and the attitude of staff is exceptionally good, very caring and willing to listen. I'm waiting for more surgery but I'm very confident in them.

Did not communicate appropriately

A lady was sent back to her care home after a stay in hospital and the care home were not made aware of a grade 3 pressure ulcer. There was nothing written on the discharge letter. Poor communication and documentation.

Lacking in dignity and respect

Accident and emergency services
April 3, 2018
Whilst I appreciate that putting a nurse just inside the ED department may help filter patients who may or may not need the ED department, having to show my injury in full view of all those waiting in the reception is degrading, undignified and an invasion of confidentiality. The hospital promotes the "hello my name is......"campaign, two medical members of staff failed to follow this protocol. Whilst waiting for radiography, two medical members of staff disclosed their displeasure in the corridor and in the full hearing of those of us who were waiting for xrays. It was also undignified to have my bloods taken in the ambulance escalation area in open view of ambulance crew and another patient. The triage nurse was brilliant, professional and had an excellent manner, thorough, sensitive and supportive.
The new area for patients and supporters to sit is far too small, insufficiently ventilated, with hard plastic chairs. There were a double figure number of people having to stand and wait by the entrance where ambulance crew were entering with patients. This illustrates this department's approach to the dignity of those who have to visit..

Nice experience with the hospital

April 3, 2018
It's quite a nice hospital, staff are very helpful and if we are offered a choice of Ipswich Hospital or Bury, we'd choose Bury. The token system for parking works well especially if you are seen quickly, you don't have to pay.

Very poor patient care

Patient discharged in February 2018. Found to have cannula in left arm. Phoned ward, no reply. Phoned switchboard, asked for matron and was put through to in training department. They took a message to G9. Eventually, a man phoned and made various excuses as to why the cannula was left - no one told him, charts not filled in, etc, etc. I asked what he wanted me to do, he said find someone to take it out.

Handover to residential home very poor

Accident and emergency services
March 2, 2018
Two residents have been discharged to us from west Suffolk hospital this year with pressure areas (that they did not go in with) and the hospital did not inform us when they handed over during discharge. We always directly ask the nurse in charge if the resident has acquired any pressure areas while in hospital because when they are discharged back into our care we would need to provide the correct pressure area care so we can get the equipment in the home before they come back to ensure they receive the best and most appropriate care for them. The poor handover means the residents care is delayed on their return home when is not acceptable. I reported this to the hospital both times and the first time the denied they had any pressure areas, even when I provided photos, the second time they felt it wasn't worth doing an incident form because he had already been discharged.
