Information and advice is great

June 4, 2018
The hospital are now doing seminars to explain what to expect before, during and after a knee operation which was very good. Took place on a Saturday and answered all the questions I had.

Birth was a struggle

Maternity
June 4, 2018
Communication with the community team has not been great. Prior to the birth. Things didn't go smoothly. The umbilical cord was wrapped around the neck but this wasn't picked up. Should also have monitored the baby's size more closely.

Poor discharge procedure, no risk assessment

Accident and emergency services
May 17, 2018
Resident attended A&E due to having a seizure. Only second seizure in his life and not epileptic. No discharge letter sent back to residential home. No risk assessment carried out. Arrived in ambulance as he lives in residential home. Sent home with wife knowing he had a seizure and could have had another whilst she was driving. Resident has dementia and known history of hitting people when anxious, confused and/or unwell. Left both resident and his wife vulnerable and potentially at risk. Previously referred for first seizure in 2017, not followed up by the hospital and referred made again.

Another Poor Discharge

Accident and emergency services
May 15, 2018
A resident was admitted to WSH on Sunday 13/5/18 and she was discharged today from F6 and she has advanced dementia and cannot speak. She returned from F6 today with a Venflon in her hand, medication (suppositories) were sent from WSH pharmacy in an unnamed box and no medication label on, no MAR sheet for the nurses. Even the Paramedics picking her up were perturbed by this and apologised.

I was a 'walk in'

Haematology
May 15, 2018
I 'was a walk in' and when I registered on the screen I was advised I would be seen at 11.20 which was ok for me. In the event I was seen just after 10.30 which was great!

My experience was fantastic

Oncology

My experience was fantastic-as it has always been! Staff are by and large great and I am much reassured by the quality of my clinicians. Hospital is certainly
clean but a touch 'shabby' in places hence only four stars.

Overall I am very pleased I come here rather more frequently than I would like and the hospital generally and this service specifically have got better over the years. My overall score reflects the past as well as current experience

Online booking is great for me

Automatic online booking and screen based checking in are great for me but some other (older) people were struggling with the screen and the nurses were too busy to help them.

Most nurses are excellent

Haematology
May 15, 2018
I turned up without an appointment (for blood test) and the book in sign said the wait was 40 minutes but in fact it was much nearer to 10 minutes. For me, turning up and waiting is more convenient than trying to book. It was a brilliant guy today but previously my daughter had to have four attempts to take bloods. Most nurses are excellent though.
