Access take ages

Dermatology
February 13, 2019
Awaiting access to the Dermatology dept is really long. As I have an EpiPen and need re-testing but I was advised that the wait will be very long with it being a really long waiting list.

Outstanding. Kind, sensitive, understanding, knowledgeable, empathetic, excellent listening skills. Caring and gentle. Faultless service.

Unacceptable behaviour

MRI Medical Admissions Unit
January 16, 2019
On arrival, my questionnaire was snatched from my hands as they wanted to be "quick" - I was their last appointment. I was then asked to leave my basket with clothes in in the corridor. I was told music would be played - this did not happen. I did not feel well during or after the scan. I sat in the waiting room but was told I had to leave (the time was 4.30 pm). On standing, I felt weak, but there was no care (and my friend who had taken me to the appointment had car trouble and had to get Green Flag, so was not with me). A staff member raced me along the corridor (I could not keep up) and left me halfway to the entrance door. I reported to PALS but no action was taken and no letter of apology received. I am an active person and do not have mobility problems. I work for the NHS so do not like to complain, but this was in my opinion unacceptable behaviour.

Humour of staff helped enormously

Gastrointestinal and Liver services
January 8, 2019
I had a colostomy, which can be an unpleasant experience, but the care, efficiency, and humour of the staff helped enormously to make it acceptable. Everybody from receptionist to doctor went out of their way to explain, help and reassure. The procedure was painless and initial results were fully explained. All of this was at 7:30 on a Saturday morning!

Mixed care in my pathway

Maternity
November 19, 2018
With it being my 4th pregnancy, with continual 'pre-eclampsia' symptoms in all previous pregnancies, leading to early births and special care for the baby and prolonged treatment for me. You would have thought I'd be listened to, but no! I ended up almost dieing. My child was delivered and I didn't know I'd be alive to see it. If they'd listened to me earlier I know it would have never got to that stage. After care was without fault. Staying in with the baby in my room after a week as there was prolonged jaundice was a good experience of great care.

Cannot fault them

Eye clinic
November 8, 2018
I had a cataract removed in right eye and receive injections in my left eye for 'wet eye' at Beccles hospital too. I cannot fault the teams at both hospitals. I feel we are lucky to have such a great NHS

Mixed experience

Maternity
November 8, 2018
During pregnancy they were excellent as I had regular visits from 20 weeks. However, when I had the baby things were not so great. Intensive care did not communicate with me. I was waiting in the parents room then when I saw my baby, they were rigged up to canulars and all sorts. They then transferred baby to Norfolk and Norwich without telling me what was wrong and wanted to keep me in JPUH so I discharged myself and made my own way to N&N only to discover my baby was having assistance with breathing. N&N then filled me in on everything going on. They gave me a room near the hospital to stay in the whole time in shared accommodation, which was amazing to be offered that. Just find N&N looked after me and JPUH really did not.

Dolphin suite not great

Maternity
November 8, 2018
The staff at the beginning were a bit grumpy, but the midwife who delivered my baby was excellent. I was disappointed with the Dolphin Suite, as there was no bed in there. It felt cold and very sparse, just wasn't comfortable for me so I moved back onto the normal ward.

Sorted out my hearing aid

Ear Nose and Throat
November 8, 2018
They picked up on the fact that I should not have the hearing aid in the ear that the Colchester service had given me. I was having terrible trouble with it and then getting random feedback and loud noises. I was told by Colchester that I would just have to get used to it. when i went to James Paget they checked my hearing again and they said that that particular ear would not suit having an 'aid' in it, due to the amount of hearing loss I have in it, so I was refitted for the other ear and it is so much better.

Great care from all the midwives and support

Maternity
September 14, 2018
My partner and new born baby had to stay in for nearly a week due to complications during birth but all the midwives and support staff were fantastic through their care and support. One thing is support for partners should be considered, either somewhere to sleep to support their partner and baby. And if it's a prolonged stay reduced car parking fees should be considered for those on maternity not just children's ward or neo-natal.
