Very difficult to speak to a doctor

Tried to speak to a doctor re my elderly mother aged 95, as admitted and discharged from ED on Monday 11 Dec. No details on system, needed to explain news for follow up and review. Had to insist on a call back, not allowed to discuss in person. Access awful. My mother has not been seen by a DOCTOR in many months, despite frailty, deranged bloods, weight loss and falls.

I have found this surgery to be very good for my own situation. With a few health issues, I find that I get to see someone when needed. They are thorough, even within a time restricted appointment. I feel that the initial phone call helps with that, because when you then are needed to be see face to face, they have already had that groundwork conversation.

Hearing loss

The system is ok, but with hearing loss they have to shout. I have one aid but can only hear in the other ear with no aid on the telephone. I cannot always hear when they come out to call your name. Not sure what will happen when it gets worse. Currently, if I can, I try get a friend to come in with me, but that is not always possible.
Mild frustration

Being able to get an appointment has become more difficult since coming out of covid, with barriers that lead to mild frustration for me as a patient. Sometimes I do not have time to hang on the phone too long (more than 20 minutes), so you just have to try again the next day.

They are excellent with us here.
I care for someone with Dementia and so support is good from the practice around this. They are helpful and enable me to advocate for him.
We are not told though of support in the community.

In general I am very happy here.
Recently I came in due to a leg issue. The GP however could not get anyone to 'dress' it, so sent me away. I found that bizarre.
Currently I have been referred for a few things at hospital and that was pretty swift.
Now await that ongoing treatment and hope it goes smoothly between hospital and GP. I can sometimes get my bloods done here, but sometimes the wait is too long to link up with the medication side. I then call hospital and I go there instead and they adjust my meds accordingly.

Refered to wrong service

Very concerned about knowledge of those who refer children. With specific need for a specialist in Orthopaedics. we were referred to Allied Physio, who treat adults, not children. The surgery insisted that it was the correct place and I had to have these horrible conversations as I knew it was not, as Allied themselves said it was not. This however happened twice! Allied themselves bounced it back to the surgery saying it is incorrect, yet they sent it again. In the end I was able to speak to someone myself in Paediatrics and we managed to do it from 'internal' way. We would likely still be waiting if I had not managed to do this myself. It caused me a great deal of stress as it is my childs health.
Better links needed

The links to and from the Ipswich hospital take ages and they need to be better. In my situation there is urgent need to link up with my gynecologist and day later from when I see the GP. If I have not heard from Gynae I have to ring and they say they've heard nothing from the surgery. It can sometimes take two weeks and I chase them, which in turn causes me lots of stress.

They have looked after me very well here for the last 30 years. I find they are very thorough and the staff are so kind.

I have found the surgery particularly good with the children. They see us all reasonably quickly. The children however, are seen with no question, and face to face.
